DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE S CORNER DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE REPORT January 13, 2018 We had our transition and first District Meeting for the new term on January 13, There were 13 GRs attending, 5 of which were brand new. I had group details available for all the groups in the District. Those in attendance were able to check for accuracy and updating. As the new DR, I plan to visit Groups in the District, particularly new Groups, to make sure they are getting the necessary information, help and support their needs. I urge every Group to complete and promptly return group data forms. We voted to hold a workshop(s) in 2018 and formed a task force for planning. More will be revealed as the plans are finalized. There are currently two vacant coordinator positions in our District: Public Outreach and Spanish Coordinator. I know we have many qualified persons in our District who could fill those vacancies. 5 Hello District 12, ALATEEN REPORT I look forward to my term as the Alateen Coordinator and am grateful for the service work. Looking forward to meeting with Lynn S. soon, to review the duties and work needed as the Alateen Coordinator. In March I will be attending Program Of Sponsors Sharing Everything (P.O.S.S.E) for my Alateen certification and education of the Alateen processes. Please consider attending Program Of Sponsors Sharing Everything (P.O.S.S.E) this March th 2018 see the Texas Al-Anon website for more information. texas-al-anon.org>events>march 2018>East TX Program Of Sponsors Sharing Everything. Yours In Service, Dolores W. (New) Alateen Coordinator Currently District 12 has four Alateen meetings; they are: Just for Today Alateen University United Methodist Church, 5084 De Zavala Road Saturday 11am CL North Loop Alateen 231 E North Loop, Coker United Methodist Church, Wesley Building Rm Thursday 7pm CL Un Dia A La Vez One Day At A Time Alateen 722 Balcones Height Rd Wednesday 6:30pm Spanish Pass It On Alateen 3460 FM 3009, Schertz United Methodist Church Thursday 6:00pm CL While at the Area World Service Committee (AWSC) transitional meeting this past weekend; I met the Texas East Area 53 Alateen Liaison, we had a nice conversation and I asked him what where some of his concerns and goals for the Alateen s and their program. He told me that one of the foremost problems for Alateens was transportation. Even when the Alateen wants to attend a meeting there still is the problem of getting to and from the meetings, assemblies and conferences. Not just anyone can drive an Alateen to a meeting, conference or assembly (unless it is your own child); you must be certified as an Alateen sponsor to chauffer the Alateens to these events. Currently there just aren t enough people doing this service or communication with the ones that can so that these kids can work their programs. Attending P.O.S.S.E is a way to help keep Alateen and Al-Anon growing and spreading the word of this life saving program. PUBLIC OUTREACH REPORT Position currently vacant. If you are interested in service, please consider serving in this position. (Outgoing) Public Outreach Coordinator/Heidi Dukes I have paved the way with 300 posters in all middle/high schools in NISD, as well as 300 Alanon Faces Alcoholism which are in all NISD high schools health class, (requirement for graduation) where they study Alcoholism. Need to be prepared for teens who go to Alanon website and/or use # for meeting information. Winter 2018 Get Busy Get Better Page 5
