1 Anchorage Area Service Committee Meeting Minutes Monday, February 6, 2012 MEETING OPENED: READING: ROLL CALL: NEW GROUPS: MINUTES FROM JAN: AMENDMENTS TO AGENDA: 6:30 pm, Josh W., with a moment of silence and the Serenity Prayer Service Prayer (Charlotte D.), Decorum Statement (Tami M.), Twelve Traditions (Dave P.), and Twelve Concepts (DJ R.) 13/19 eligible GSRs in attendance Recovery Connection was in attendance and asking for readmission, voted on as housekeeping and readmitted making 14/20 GSR s in attendance. Accepted Isaac H. will be replacing Susan S for 2 nd Tradition presentation. ADMINISTRATIVE COMMITTEE REPORTS (Full, Written Reports on File) Chair: Vice Chair: (Josh W.) I'm glad to be back in the saddle after missing two Area meetings. We have, among other 1) Nominations for AASC subcommittee service positions should be brought to the March meeting. Nominees must be present with written qualifications. Voting is in April. Let's keep our service structure strong! 2) The Area guidelines can only be amended on a periodic basis. Please bring motions for those changes in March to be voted on in April. 3) Volunteers are greatly appreciated to share on the concepts and traditions. In Loving Service, Josh W. (Alan M.) Thank you again for allowing me to be of service to the groups it continues to be a humbling experience and I am learning a lot about the application of the concepts and traditions to service. In keeping with the responsibilities of vice chair I continue to be available one hour before or I can stay after any of the area meetings (regular or special) to meet with the sub committee chairs. I m also available by phone if anyone needs to arrange a different time to meet or has any questions. I would like to thank Chris and the rest of the literature sub committee for taking the time to have literature available at the birthday dinner and speaker meeting and to Jack and the P.I. committee for setting up the literature rack. The food was excellent and Rob and a lot of support from the fellowship helped make it a success. A couple of members brought concerns about H.and I. to my attention and I spoke to Terry, she assured me that all the panel leaders meet the clean time requirements however a few had not had H. and I. orientations. We agreed this would be a good way to address any issues and to that end the H and I subcommittee had an orientation after their last meeting and have schedule another for this month so that they can announce it and encourage participation. Motions for guideline changes and nominations for all sub committees are due at the March meeting. The essay on the forth concept for NA service states that effective leadership is highly valued in NA, the forth concept speaks of the qualities we should consider when selecting leaders for ourselves. However, we should remember that the fulfillment of many service responsibilities requires nothing more than the willingness to serve. Other responsibilities, while requiring certain specific skills, depend for their fulfillment far more on the trusted servants spiritual maturity and personal integrity. Willingness, Spiritual depth, and trustworthiness are strong demonstrations of the kind of leadership valued most highly in Narcotics Anonymous. In loving Service, Alan M. Page1
