1 Peer Support Whole Health Training Magellan Behavioral Health is pleased to invite you to: Peer Support Whole Health Training: Presented by the Appalachian Consulting Group (ACG) 2 Day Training Thursday, September 26, :30 AM to 4:30 PM Friday, September 27, :30 AM to 4:30 PM Participants will leave the two day training with: The Core Beliefs of Peer Support Whole Health (PSWH) PSWH Tools to use immediately with peers Understanding of the Domains of Whole Health Identification of the 5 Keys to Success Knowing how to create person centered planning goals using the IMPACT criteria A certificate of training in Peer Support Whole Health for 14 hours (Certificate of Attendance) Hampton Inn & Suites Alexandria 6124 West Calhoun Dr. Alexandria, LA, (Application for Attendance is Required Please see Attachment for Details)
2 Peer Support Whole Health Training Planned for Peer Support Specialists: Introduction Peer Support Whole Health (PSWH) is a person centered planning process that: 1. Looks at a person's health lifestyle 2. Focuses on a person s strengths, interests and natural supports 3. Stresses creating new lifestyle habits and disciplines 4. Provides peer support by peer specialists to promote self directed whole health The Peer Support Whole Health (PSWH) training was developed by the Appalachian Consulting Group (ACG) and the Georgia Mental Health Consumer Network (GMHCN) as part of a National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) Technology Transfer Initiative grant. Some of the tools are adapted from the evidence based Chronic Disease Self Management Program developed at Stanford University. The two day training provides peer specialists with skills needed to help other peers set, reach and keep a whole health goal. PSWH is an exciting new role for peer specialists because it clarifies how to promote self directed resiliency and whole health. It is transforming mental health systems. Training Content Overview: The PSWH training is based on three beliefs: 1. People cannot be forced to change their unhealthy lifestyle habits. People volunteer to take part in the PSWH training. Participants acknowledge that they have health issues that they are thinking about. 2. People are more likely to create a healthier lifestyle when they focus on their interests, strengths, supports and what they see as possible. Therefore, the PSWH training helps people focus on what they want to create in their lives, not on what they need to change. 3. People find it easier to create new habits than to change or stop old habits. Therefore, the PSWH training focuses on creating new habits or disciplines each week. It also monitors how well individuals are doing and accepting support from their peers.
