1 Vocational Rehabilitation Funding for a Power Wheelchair with Power Adjustable Seat Height: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, It is a wide-ranging law intended to make American Society more accessible to people with disabilities. As a result businesses must provide reasonable accommodations to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities in all aspects of employment. Possible changes may include restructuring jobs, altering the layout of workstations, or modifying equipment. If you are not sure whether this is the right path for you the Job Accommodation Network (JAN) provides free consulting services for individuals with disabilities that affect employment. Services include one-on-one consultation about job accommodation ideas, requesting and negotiating accommodations, and rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related laws. Although JAN does not help individuals find employment, JAN does provide information for job seekers. You can reach JAN at If the use of power adjustable seat height will allow the employee (or potential employee, including students) to carry out the requisite job responsibilities independently, with a greater level of safety or in a more time efficient manner it may be considered a reasonable accommodation and funded by the employer or the state s department of vocational rehabilitation services.
