As schools let out and people drift away on their vacations we have a few reminders to share before Wellesley clears out for July and August: > If you are in town please consider shopping for a few extra items to donate - we have bins at Roche Bros. and Whole Foods - because summer intake typically drops off dramatically. > If you are going away you can still donate financially so we can make purchases for clients on your behalf. > If you have a garden we would be grateful to have any excess produce items you can donate. We have already benefited from contributions by Weston Road Community Gardens and Mass Hort's garden (thanks to National Charity League for coordinating drop-offs!). FUNDRAISING FOR WFP Ride for Food - Sunday, Sept. 24 The Ride for Food has been a wonderful event for us to be part of to raise funds and awareness about the issue of hunger in eastern Massachusetts. These funds are critical to allowing us to expand the number of healthy food choices available to our clients, including fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, and meats. This year the event will once again offer three courses (12/25/50 miles) and we need: Riders: If you can and want to ride please sign up! There is plenty of information on their website about how to participate. Support: We need donors to offer their financial commitment to all of our riders (or you can donate to the team in general). We ask you to consider if your gift can be matched as well. Volunteer: Each team is expected to provide assistance in preparation for the event, as well as on the day of the ride to make the whole operation run smoothly. These are generally simple tasks and are necessary to help us raise the money needed to fund our mission. Support Wellesley Food Pantry by making a donation to our team. The process is fast, easy, and secure... and you can be sure that it will benefit a great cause! WHS National Honor Society Holds Fundraiser to Benefit WFP The Wellesley High School NHS held a "duck race" fundraiser that resulted in a donation of more than $2,200 dollars for WFP. Students could purchase a rubber duck that was placed in the Fuller Brook and "raced" downstream. The winners were eligible for prizes, and the proceeds came to WFP. 3 THANK YOU FOR POSTAL FOOD DRIVE! WFP is very grateful to all who participated in May's Postal Food Drive. We would like to thank the letter carriers from both and post offices, and in particular Jack Eppenstein for his organizing efforts, for making this year's Stamp Out Hunger collection a success. We also want to thank all of the Wellesley residents who provided goods for collection to help us fulfill our mission. This 25th annual drive was critical to increasing our inventory at this time of year, when collections fall off as vacation season ramps up and many residents leave town for parts of the summer. Our clients' needs continue unabated during the summer so please keep us in mind to make contributions, especially while school is on summer recess. We are looking for sign assistance! Interested in helping those in need in our community? We are in need of a volunteer to help manage the pantry's yellow food drive signs you may see around town. We post the signs twice a year--in May and November-- for our Scouting for Food and Postal Food drives. We need help making sure our hosts get these signs put up to raise awareness of our upcoming drives. We are also on the lookout for volunteers to host a food drive lawn sign twice a year themselves. We are looking for well-traveled streets to help reach out to as many residents as possible.

4 For more information please contact Janet Horelick at VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Monday, July 24 - afternoon WFP is once again the beneficiary of the proceeds from the match hole at the Wellesley Chamber of Commerce golf outing. We need a total of six volunteers to staff the hole in 2-hour shifts. No experience necessary! The volunteers are stationed at the 7th hole tee area and greet the golfers and explain the match challenge (they give a donation and if they land on the green their donation amount is "matched" by the sponsor. Lunch and dinner are served before and after the golf, which we are invited to share. If you can help please contact Peter Lull by . Thank you to our WFP Volunteers! Some of our many volunteers who attended an appreciation luncheon in mid-june. WFP is so grateful for all of the time, effort, energy, and commitment we receive each year from dozens of our regular volunteers (and several hundred during our Scouting for Food drives in November). The expresses our appreciation for all our volunteers at an annual luncheon, held this year in mid-june. While not all volunteers were able to join us, we were happy to be able some fellowship with those who could attend. Thank you for all your help!

Changes to Wellesley Farmers' Market The last few years the Wellesley Farmers' Market has brought fresh food options into our community on Saturdays during the summer and fall months.

5 Changes to Wellesley Farmers' Market The last few years the Wellesley Farmers' Market has brought fresh food options into our community on Saturdays during the summer and fall months. Their presence has also been helpful to our clients shopping for healthier food options - the market has supported our mission by providing vouchers to people who rely on us as a supplemental food supply. This year there is a change to the market's working model. This model would enable them to expand their market and extend their season as well as continue to serve the Wellesley Food Pantry clientele. As of now this proposal requires town approvals, with a goal of opening a fall market starting in September. They will provide updates and promote ways to support local farmers and enjoy farm fresh products through their website. Please support their efforts to broaden fresh food options in our town.
