This year, you can join the movement to help create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by enrolling in the American Cancer Society s research study called the Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). Join the movement for less cancer and more birthdays. Enroll in CPS-3. Who can join the study? The study is open to anyone in the United States and Puerto Rico who is willing to commit to the study long term, is between the ages of 30 and 65, and has never been diagnosed with cancer (not including basal or squamous cell skin cancer). How can you participate? Enrollment will take place at the Relay For Life of Pascack Valley on May 19, 2012; 5:30 9:30pm. The enrollment process involves two steps. One step takes place at a local enrollment event, where you will be asked to read and sign an informed consent form, complete a brief written survey, provide some physical measurements, and give a small blood sample (similar to a doctor s visit 7 teaspoons total). The blood sample will be drawn by a trained, certified phlebotomist. The other step takes place at home, where you will complete a more detailed survey. This survey will ask for information on lifestyle, behavioral, and other factors related to your health. Periodically, you will receive a survey at home to update that information. The Hills/Valley Community Coalition will be presenting an eye-opening regional presentation entitled The Secret Life of Teens on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at Pascack Hills High School in Montvale, New Jersey. The presentation will include a panel of dynamic speakers on the topic of Adolescent Addiction and Recovery and will provide parents and teens with the most current information on teen drug abuse trends such as the use of marijuana, ecstasy, and prescription drugs. The Secret Life of Teens will feature speaker Tara Connors, Miss USA In late 2006, Tara Conner became the center of a public scandal when news reports claimed she had been drinking underage, and that she had tested positive for the use of cocaine, heroin, and crystal meth. Tara was able to retain her title, provided that she entered the Caron Center Drug Rehabilitation Program. Donald Trump said that he gave a second chance to Tara for personal reasons. Revealing that his brother Fred died from alcoholism, Trump said, "I believe in second chances, and sometimes it works when you give somebody a second chance. Currently, Tara seeks to raise awareness among teens by sharing with others her secret life and her journey of recovery and by being an advocate for those whose lives have been impacted by addiction. Through this dynamic presentation, parents and teens will learn: Current trends in teen drug and alcohol use; How to take an active role in preventing substance abuse in their families; The warning signs of teen drinking and other drug use; The incidence of substance abuse and mental health issues among teens; How powerful their influence is on their children's decisions and behaviors.
