#every9minutes DOMESTIC ABUSE CAMPAIGN 2017 Campaign Toolkit

INTRODUCTION Welcome to the toolkit for the Every9Minutes Domestic Abuse campaign, which will be rolled out as part of an integrated campaign commencing on 10th December We would like your support to help spread the campaign messages and as such this toolkit contains information which may assist, namely: Information about the campaign Key messages Planned communications methods Campaign assets you can use Useful contacts

THE CAMPAIGN The campaign will launch on 10th December and will provide opportunities for partnership working and media/social media opportunities. THE AIM This campaign aims to raise awareness about Domestic Abuse, deter perpetrators and prevent offending during a period of heightened risk to victims.

TARGET AUDIENCE #every9minutes * The focus for Police Scotland are perpetrators. The age bracket of year old males has the highest number of recorded perpetrators. *Every 9 minutes, we respond to a call of domestic abuse.

KEY MESSAGES Message for the perpetrators: We are coming for you. If you have committed or are committing Domestic Abuse towards your partner, or ex-partner it will not be tolerated and there will be consequences. Time is running out and there is no hiding place. Controlling Behaviours include a range of physical, verbal, sexual, psychological and financial controls used by penetrators to apply pressure to exert control over their victims. Any criminal behaviour will be actively pursued by the police. Message for victims and bystanders: We are here for you. If your partner, or ex-partner, is being abusive towards you (physical, verbal, sexual, psychological and financial) come forward and report it. Police Scotland does not tolerate Domestic Abuse and reported incidents will be investigated thoroughly. Support is available for all victims, please see the partner contacts on page 8. The Disclosure Scheme for Domestic Abuse Scotland (DSDAS) gives those in a relationship, or those concerned for them (e.g. friends, relatives etc), the Right to Ask about an individual whom you suspect may have a history of violent or abusive behaviour towards a previous partner. Make use of it, you may save a life.
