2 What We Are Doing Studying which features of internet smoking cessation treatment are effective with Community College (CC) Students: PHS Guideline Info, interactivity, social media, etc. Randomized Controlled Research Study compares smoking cessation rates among CC Students Why We Are Doing It Young adults: a priority population for the National Cancer Institute (1/3 1/2 of CC students are young adults) CC Students are both understudied, and underserved Web Assisted Tobacco Interventions (WATIs) are becoming more evidence-based with a variety of populations 2

7 WATI: Web Assisted Tobacco Intervention NIH Funded Research (National Cancer Institute) 5 year study: Recruit 1,500 Community College Students by June, 2015 (Currently ~ 1,200) Smokers who are ready to quit get a Study Intervention Website (with components determined by scientific studies to be effective with adults who want to quit) All participation is online (websites and questionnaires) Students get up to $45 whether they successfully quit or not (for answering 1, 6, and 12-month Questionnaires) Students who are not eligible, and all non-students (faculty, staff, visitors) are referred to the NY State Quitline. 7
