1 Early Years and Childcare Training Programme This is a list of the s in the July Training Programme available to book at: Title/ Content Letters and Sounds (choose 1. Both sessions must be attended). This training will look to: Clarify the content and expectations of phase 1 Stress the importance of developing good listening skills and phonological awareness Develop practitioners subject knowledge Introduce the phase 1 Aspects and Strands as detailed in Letters and Sounds and to consider suitable activities Identify next steps for development and agree action required by teachers and practitioners MAXIMUM 2 PLACES PER ORGANISATION. Please note this is the basic and does not focus on the integration of the check with the Community Nursery Nurses ASQ. Basic Awareness in Child Protection and Safeguarding Children (choose 1 session) This is for those who have not undertaken safeguarding training within the last 3 years. This explores the categories of abuse and the impact it has on the child, including the impact of domestic violence. Both sessions must be attended) Becoming culturally competent is an ongoing journey, we will all be at different points on the spectrum and it can be complex and at times seem daunting. It can also be exciting, interesting and rewarding both on a al basis and for those children and families we have a duty to protect. This Becoming Culturally Competent training aims to: Enhance our awareness of our own world view and values Develop positive attitudes towards cultural difference Enhance our knowledge of different cultural practices and values Enhance our skills for communication and interaction across cultures. Knowing about our own cultural identity is an important first step in the process of becoming culturally competent and when we understand how our own identities have been formed we can begin to acknowledge how these impact on others. 3 Title/ Content Session 6 RS S17/0706 Thursday 13 th July Supporting Boys Girls continue to perform better than boys throughout their education. This aims to support practitioners to raise boys attainment levels by focussing on the following key themes: Exploring development differences between boys and girls Looking at the differences in the brain development of boys and girls Sharing tips and techniques for getting boys attention Considering links between physical activity and improved outcomes for boys Assessing boys well-being and involvement Considering how motivation is key to boys success Getting the right environment for boys A workshop style activity will take place during the afternoon period. Practitioners will be asked to consider and talk about the boys they currently support who may stand out for various reasons. They may wish to bring supporting documentation, for example, their learning journey files, to support this discussion. This will be delivered by Nicola Jones who is an experienced, successful education consultant. Nicola has worked as a primary teacher and as part of the Early Years teams in both Newcastle Upon Tyne and Northumberland Local Authorities. Nicola is committed to improving the quality of educational provision and has had success in improving practice in nurseries and primary schools across the North-East region. Since 2009 Nicola has been working closely with the Boys Development Project in London and became an accredited trainer to deliver the About Boys which is now growing rapidly across Northumberland. MAXIMUM 2 PLACES PER ORGANISATION Introducing EYFS (choose 1. All sessions must be attended) This is for those who have not worked with the EYFS previously, or have been working with EYFS for less than one term. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old. All schools and Ofsted-registered Early Years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes. This is ideal for those who have not worked with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) previously, or have been working with the EYFS for less than one term. The aims to give attendees the basics needed to understand the EYFS. This will include examining the Development Matters Booklet and the Common Inspection Framework. The is run over 4 sessions which will take attendees from basic principles and practice, supporting observation and assessment, through to the enabling environment, and working with parents and partners. All four sessions must be attended by the same member of staff to ensure they get the most from this. It states that: Children do not make rapid enough progress because far too many settings pass on unreliable assessments. Too often, time is lost through unreliable and inaccurate information that cannot be regained. Settings working together to share information and complete joint training improve the consistency of judgements for vulnerable children. Our first and most important partnership is with children s most important educators their parents/carers! Children benefit most from Early Years care, learning and play when, parents/carers and settings work together in partnership. Successful partnership working between multiple agencies is crucial in supporting better outcomes for children and families, for this to be successful we must be proactive in working with, and sharing both knowledge and expertise with our colleagues. All sessions must be attended) It is a requirement of the Local of Practice that all group provisions have a named SENCO and that all SENCOs attend appropriate training. Ideally the setting SENCO should be a senior member of staff (Level 3 qualified with at least 2 years post qualification experience) working in a management role. 7 Title/ Content WRAP Awareness Training PREVENT (choose 1 session) This will enable you to: Understand Prevents aims Think about who may be vulnerable to terrorism See why some people are able to influence and manipulate others to commit crimes Recognise when a vulnerable individual may be in need of your help Be clear on what help and support looks like in this area, and who you should turn to if you have concerns. Working with Parents (both sessions must be attended) This will develop practitioners: Understanding of how working with parents will ensure the best outcomes for children Handling of tricky situations Use of Appreciative Inquiry to find out about children s home learning This training will be based on the Family Nurse Practitioners model of working with vulnerable families; session 1 will look at general principles for working with parents, and session 2 will cover more of the practical aspects e.g. greetings, sending things home, asking for parent s observations. Integrated Review (choose 1 session) Government expectation is that Early Years Providers and Health will work together to ensure that an integrated way of working is in place when a 2 year old child has their review. This training will enable professionals to: understand each other s assessments, the EYFS Progress Check and the Ages and Stages questionnaire attend with partners from Health to support practice if possible Please note: Group providers and childminders you are welcome to inform and encourage your partner from Health to attend this with you. 8 Title/ Content Ofsted Ready: Preparing for your Inspection (choose 1 session) This is aimed at all Early Years practitioners in order to help them prepare for their Ofsted Inspection and support the achievement of that elusive Ofsted Outstanding rating! The demands placed upon staff teams during an inspection are greater than ever under the Common Inspection Framework This training will allow teams to have a clearer understanding of what will be required of them during an inspection and help reduce the stress and allow for better performance. With the new Inspection Framework now in place, it is more essential than ever to understand how we meet the standards set for us as Early Years providers. The will also include some of the new elements such as Fundamental British Values, Prevent Duty and Teaching, Learning and Assessment. 10 The Early Years Improvement Service: Training Terms, Conditions and Payment Procedures The terms, conditions and payment procedures cover all of the training that is organised through the Early Years Improvement Service. A copy is also available on the Families Information Service website: Please ensure you read through the following information so you are familiar with the procedures. Engage Doncaster is the Doncaster Council, Learning & Opportunities: Children and People website, which details training s, events and information for professionals: It is a requirement that the booking is made by the authorised within the organisation (school, childminder, nursery, playgroup, out of school club, children s centre). Individuals who work for the organisation cannot apply on their own behalf. This is to ensure that the payments process is as streamlined as possible with only the organisation being responsible for costs (as opposed to individual billing). Places booked by anyone other than the authorised will be cancelled. When the online application is submitted it will provisionally book a place(s) on a, however, until payment has been made for the place(s) it/they will not be secured. If payment is not required the place will be secured at the time of booking. An application for a place on a can be submitted up to 48 hours prior to the start of the. After this time the will be closed and no further bookings can be made. The read more link to the bottom right of each which will take you to a page containing the full details and available dates. 4. Read through the information checking the target audience criteria to ensure you are eligible to attend. The Early Years Training Team will cancel the places of any delegates who are not eligible to attend. 5. Select the date from those available and click book this. You will be taken to the registration page 6. For s with no availability, a waiting list button appears under the notify me link. Providers can use this link to request an alert when spaces become available for a particular date. If a place is cancelled an automated will go out to those on the notify me list.
