This year has been a busy one for the Progress Project, with our members getting involved in a variety of different projects and activities many of which you can read all about in this issue! 2 Facilities at Kingsley Hall Games They have all worked so hard in expressing their opinions and getting their voices heard about things that matter to them so a big WELL DONE to you all! 3 Recipes This is our 2nd Annual Newsletter and we have all enjoyed putting it together! The Futures Programme works to give disabled young people Skills for Adulthood, as well as Training and Employment sessions and Healthy Lifestyle courses. Part of this project offers training to organisations about how to participate well with young people. 4 Reviews Don t forget to enter our competition, where you can win a Vue Cinema Gift Card!! We say thanks to Ruth and Progress Project for taking us to the Paralympics! We so enjoyed this event so much! Progress Project made our day! ADAM KASPAR Paralympic Trip it is fun! We went in the bus and saw Wheelchair Rugby. Alan Cranmer We got the train to the Olympic Park. Joanie forgot her packed lunch! We watched wheelchair rugby, I filmed some of it. It was the 8 th September. I enjoyed the day! I would give it 10 out of 10! Michael Wallace BOWLING We went bowling in Dagenham Bowl Romford is quite good too! I walked from home and met the group there. All my friends were there with me. I went because I enjoy Bowling and I really enjoyed the night. Ryan Martin I went to Bowling in Dagenham Bowl with Progress Project. We got there by bus and I went on a bus home. We played 2 games of Bowling. Neffaterri Spooner Bowling was great! 5 REVIEWS 2012 continued... 5 We went to the Barking Town Hall with the BAD Youth Forum and gave a presentation to everyone about what we do. We met Margaret Hodge MP, Cllr Rocky Gill and John Biggs AM from the London Assembly. We got to ask them a few questions, and it has got us a bit more interested in Politics! 3 of our group took part in Takeover Day where we got to spend an afternoon with some Directors in the Council. We really enjoyed ourselves and loved seeing what they do! We organised a Skills 4 Adulthood Day in October where we did lots of workshops about Relationships, Goal Setting, Assertiveness, and Healthy Living! We also got a very nice lunch, and we are hoping to run something similar next year! INTERVIEW Here is an interview between 2 of our members...adam Kaspar and Jack Taylor Q. How often do you come to Progress Project A. Every week when group is on Q. What do you enjoy doing at the Progress Project? A. Chatting, Going Out, Playing Games Q. How do you get here? A. Mum and Dad drop me off in the car Q. What was your favourite activity? A. Going out, and meeting people!
6 6 CONSULTATIONS So far this year we have spoken about 4 main things that are important to us within our Forum Sessions and how we can change the things that we are not happy with. We may have even come to your youth club to talk to you about what you think too! We are now writing up what everyone has said about these things and putting it into a report. This will be available on our website in the near future, or you can ask for a copy from your Youth Club Leader. We spoke about... Barriers to Participation We did a puppet show which told everyone what are your favourite places and what you like doing in your spare time. My character was based on a Chinese person. The show I did was funny because I tried speaking in Chinese. I really enjoyed doing this and I would do it again. Daniel Howell Short Breaks We got split into 2 groups to look at different Short Breaks and decide which ones were good and ones that were not that good. This was a very good activity. I found some of the Short Break DVDs good and some Short Break DVDs not that good. Daniel Howell Lifestyle Cards We did an Activity where you had to sort out Lifestyle Cards which included to be rich, to be good looking, and to have good friends. My top one was to have good friends. My least important one was to be good looking. This was a really fun activity! Daniel Howell We did Lifestyle Cards. We had lots of cards to sort out. Some of the cards were being rich, having friends, having a job. We enjoyed doing this and we did it in groups. It was fun doing this! Adam Kaspar Police Talked to the Policeman about what we think about Policemen. We stayed in the Kingsley Hall bit of Progress Project to talk to the Policeman. I liked it when other people talked and cared about the riots. Jack Taylor NEWS FLASH! We have just started planning our BIG campaign for 2013, which is all about NO SPITTING! Our slogan is Don t Spit It, Don t Spread It, Don t Catch It - look out for this soon!
