3 TOBYHANNA COURAGE T obyhanna Township Volunteer Fire Company established over 85 years ago with a mission. A true belief emergency response, fire prevention and strong community bond is paramount in developing a valuable resource for the citizens of Tobyhanna Township, and portions of Coolbaugh Township along with its neighboring municipalities. Dedicated to fostering growth through interaction and education, TTVFC volunteers share that same commitment igniting self evolution. Education, training and certifications prepare these brave men and women with the vital elements to perform duties 24/7, 365 days a year. On-scene for Quick Response Service, licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health; as well as fire extinguishment, these familiar faces are prepared to cast aside fear and selflessly devote their time to helping others. 4 TOBYHANNA STATION 41 T TVFC is sustained through donations and grants along with Fire Tax contributions of one mill through Tobyhanna and Coolbaugh Townships. Funding by the Pennsylvania Relief and Fireman s Associations help subsidize costs. All monies go toward equipment, training and vehicle expenses dispelling the belief salaries and benefits are paid to these volunteers. Fire Tax funds are designated for vehicle replacement. State subsidized funding is solely for the purpose of acquiring safety equipment. Fiscal responsibility is governed by a Board of Directors, consisting of members within the fire company, with audits performed every two years. Operational oversight within TTVFC s current 25 members falls upon a Chief, Assistant Chiefs, a Captain, Lieutenants, an Engineer and two Assistant Engineers. TOBYHANNA pagefour

Engaging a sense of comfort and reassurance for all citizens, young and old, TTVFC understands community involvement is paramount in achieving this goal with efforts throughout the year. 8 TOBYHANNA STATION 41 F ulfilling the needs of a vast Pocono Mountains region spanning Tobyhanna Township s 52 plus miles and areas within Coolbaugh Township s nearly 90 mile area, TTVFC responded to nearly 300 calls in A fluctuating population which doubles throughout the year as visitors yearning to experience nationally recognized recreation mecca, the Pocono Mountains, flock to the area. Heavilly traveled highways fall within TTVFC s reaction zone with unfortunate vehicle emergencies adding to the volunteer fire company s dispatch obligations. TOBYHANNA pageeight

11 TOBYHANNA Comradery C learly volunteerism instills a sense of comradery. Uniting all as one for the betterment of the community. Teamwork among emergency responders comes naturally as each watches the other s back ready to spring into action with a clear line of communication that s crucial in conquering the task at hand. Whether it be a blaze or Quick Response Service to vehicle accidents, as hoards of flashing lights approach the scene you can rest assured one is from your local volunteer fire department. Now, the emergency response organization you ve come to rely on sends out its own call to action seeking citizens to volunteer. Today s youth are encouraged to explore joining TTVFC. With a Junior Program in place, young adults ages 14 through 18 are introduced to fire service. Like an apprenticeship, the experience includes shadowing, training and familiarity with equipment. Crucial to the mandatory State Essentials of Firefighting exam it prepares future firefighters for written and physical testing. Whether new or returning to the respected volunteer organization, TTVFC welcomes the opportunity to share in the courage, community and comradery that is volunteer fire rescue.
