2 In memoriam Bent Bromand died on 17 July 2003, just a short while after he retired. Bent was the first convener of our working group. 7 Projects Pathology subgroup IMASCORE (Integrated Strategies for the Management of Stem Canker of Oilseed Rape in Europe), EU Fair Projekt co-ordinated by Dr. M. Balesdent, INRA Versailles ended in January 2001 Followed by a new EU project: SECURE (Stem Canker of Oilseed Rape: Molecular Tools and Mathematical Modelling to deploy durable Resistance), co-ordinated by Dr. Neal Evans (RRES, UK). 7 partners from France, UK, Poland, Sweden Objectives: (i) Model the life cycle of Leptosphaeria maculans and validate it, (ii) investigate pathogen variation at Avr loci on durability of resistance (iii) Effects on genotype/environment on durability of resistance (iiii) Model effects of resistance deployment strategies on durability and reccommend a sustainable strategy
8 Projects Entomology subgroup BORIS (Biocontrol of Oilseed Rape insect pests), EU Fair concerted action co-ordinated by Dr. D. Alford, ADAS, UK ended in January 2000, involved collaboration between scientist from 8 countries (Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, UK) Followed by a new EU project: MASTER (MAnagement STrategies for European Rape pests), co-ordinated by Prof. Ingrid Williams (RRES, UK) involving 7 partners (Estonia, Finland, Germany, Poland, Sweden, UK) Objectives: Construct, develop, evaluate and promote an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) System for the European oilseed rape crop incorporating biological control of pests to improve the efficiency, profitability and environmental acceptability of production and, thereby, to contribute towards sustainable production of the crop
