2 I wish to go to Hawaii Nena, 15 heart transplant WISHMAKERS ON CAMPUS Welcome to Wishmakers On Campus, a program designed for college students to help Make-A-Wish Missouri grant wishes to children facing life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. College students in Greek, honor or professional organizations, as well as those involved with sports teams or groups of friends can come together to raise money to fund wishes for courageous local children. The fundraising possibilities are endless - anything from on-line fundraising to an ice cream social. By participating in Wishmakers On Campus, you can help bring a ray of hope to local children. A fulfilled wish can replenish a child s faith in the basic wholeness and goodness of the world. It lifts them up and carries them to a place where wishes still do come true. It brings the magic back and, with it, hope, as valuable a treatment as any medicine on earth. As you look to get involved in philanthropic initiatives that build your resume and sharpen your project management skills, this is a fun and fulfilling program to participate in. 3 OUR HISTORY I wish to be a police officer Chris, 7 leukemia It all started in 1980 with a 7-year-old Phoenix boy who was diagnosed with leukemia. His wish was to be a police officer for a day. With the help of family, friends and the community, the young boy s wish came true. Since then, Make-A-Wish has grown to include 62 chapters and has granted over 270,000 wishes nationwide. The first wish in Missouri was granted in 1983 to JD who wished to have a white poodle. Our Chapter serves all 114 counties in Missouri and 6 Kansas counties that are part of the Metro Kansas City community. Make-A-Wish serves children who are at least 2 1/2 years old but younger than 18 at the time a wish is requested. The children and their families bear no cost of a wish. 5 Memphis, 10 cardiac condition I wish to go to swim with sea turtles in Cancun Memphis may seem like the typical 10-year-old girl to the outside world, but she is facing a level of adversity that no young child should ever have to face. She underwent open heart surgery in May 2017 to address neoplasms of the heart. Even though Memphis has had a tough road, she has remained strong, resilient, and has been focused on helping others. Our daughter spends so much time loving on our community and serving...we try as a family to simply leave this Earth better than we found it each and every day. 6 FUNDRAISING IDEAS THE SECRET OF SUCCESS from our top fundraising schools has been to: START EARLY: Develop your plan now and begin fundraising at the start of the school year. EDUCATE: Educate your community about your events. PROMOTE OFTEN: Keep the momentum going with multiple events throughout the year. To get you started, here are some ideas you might consider... WISH WEEK: Plan a week full of daily fun Make-A-Wish events. ON-LINE FUNDRAISING: Set up a Make-A-Wish Friends and Family Page. Customize it and share it through , Facebook, Twitter or any other social network for instant on-line donations! To learn more, visit: mo.wish.org/friendsandfamily TEXTING FOR WISHES: Select a designated Make-A-Wish keyword and promote as an easy way to raise money for wishes. Announce at a big event & make wishes come true! SPORTING EVENTS: Tap into your favorite sport & organize a walk, 5K run, swim-athon, bowl-a-thon, dodgeball, volleyball, basketball, flagfootball, powder-puff, home run derby or golf tournament. Also, ask your school to donate a percentage of their concessions and/or ticket sales from a big game! NCAA BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT CHALLENGE: Charge $10 per bracket entry during the tournament. Give the winner 50% & donate the rest to Make-A-Wish Missouri. MAKE-A-WISH STARS: Sell star cutouts and post on a Wish Wall in a high traffic area. FOR SALE : Organize a sale: bake, garage, cookbook, candy grams, holiday gift baskets, finals survival kits, etc. DOLLAR DRIVE: Get everyone on campus to donate $1. Come up with creative ways to get 100% participation. PENNY WARS: Pit dorm floors, sororities/ fraternities, clubs, sports teams, or other campus groups against each other to see who can collect the most pennies! Sabotage your competitor s totals by putting silver coins, paper money & checks into competitors containers since these forms of money are deducted from the penny total. MAKE-A-DISH FOR MAKE-A-WISH: Structured like a chili cook-off, this delicious event pits organization against organization to see whose culinary delicacy is the best. Cast your votes by placing money into containers at your favorite tasting stations. DINE WITH CAMPUS CELEBRITIES: Solicit well-known campus personalities to have dinner at the highest bidder s home or favorite restaurant. SILENT AUCTIONS/RAFFLES: Contact local businesses to donate their products or services for free. BACHELOR/BACHELORETTE AUCTION: Have poeple bid on the campus hunks or beauties for a special date. Package with gift certificates donated from local restaurants, movie theatres, sports events, etc. SIGNATURE CHEFS: Solicit area chefs to donate their time to come and cook at someone s house or teach a cooking class. 9 Wishmakers On Campus FUNDRAISING RULES Thank you for helping us make wishes come true! In planning and conducting your fundraiser, please adhere to the following rules: We do not allow door-to-door telephone solicitation. Please use care when using the Make-A-Wish Foundation name and logo. Note that Make-A-Wish is spelled with a capital A and with hyphens (not Make a Wish ). Also, please do not alter our swirl and star logo by customizing it to your specific event (e.g., do not change the logo to read Make-A-Cake if your school is conducting a cake walk.) Taking care in these matters helps us protect our brand! Please have all materials say Make-A-Wish Missouri. Our mission is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Please do not refer to the children that we serve as terminally ill or dying, as these labels can instill a sense of defeat and can be counterproductive as our wish kids fight to overcome their illness. Many of these children are able to beat their illnesses and go on to lead healthy lives. Impact studies have shown that a wish is a vital part of the child s battle against a life-threatening medical condition, and it is a powerful force for creating stronger communities. Wish parents describe the wish experience as a turning point in their child s fight against their illness. Please keep careful track of the money that you raise, and send the money directly to your local Make-A-Wish Missouri chapter office within one month after the end of your fundraiser. 10 SPECIAL EVENT PROPOSAL & LICENSE AGREEMENT TERMS & CONDITIONS 1. Sponsor agrees to provide the Make-A-Wish Foundation with all of the net proceeds from the Event, along with a written accounting of Event revenues and expenses (and supporting documentation for any expenses in excess of $500), in a form acceptable to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, within thirty (30) days after the Event. The Make-A-Wish Foundation may audit the Event revenues and expenses, if necessary. MAIL FINAL PROCEEDS AND MAKE CHECK PAYABLE TO: Make-A-Wish Foundation of Missouri Barrett Parkway Drive Suite 241 Ballwin, MO The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Missouri is a licensed chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America, the owner of certain federally registered and common law trademarks, service marks and trade names including Make-A-Wish, Make-A-Wish Foundation and the swirland-star logo (collectively, the Marks ). If (and only if) this proposal is approved by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Sponsor will be granted a non-exclusive license to use the Marks in connection with the Event, although only within the geographic territory served by our chapter, i.e., [please ask for list of counties if needed]. 3. The term of the license granted hereunder shall be from the date the Make-A-Wish Foundation approves Sponsor s proposal until the conclusion of the Event; provided, however, that the Make-A-Wish Foundation has the right to terminate the license if it determines, in its reasonable discretion, that the Event is or will likely be injurious to the Marks. 4. Any use of the Marks is subject to the prior written approval of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Accordingly, Sponsor agrees to submit to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for approval prior to the production, distribution, broadcast, or publication thereof all printed materials, publicity releases and advertising relating to the Event that mentions the Make-A-Wish Foundation or contains the Marks. 5. Sponsor understands and agrees that the Marks: (a) may not be altered in any way, nor may they be sublicensed to any other person; (b) may not be used in connection with any telemarketing or door-to-door solicitations; and/or (c) may not be used in conjunction with terminology that is contrary to Make-A-Wish s mission (including phrases like terminal illnesses, dying children, last wishes, etc.) Sponsor further acknowledges that, because its license to use the Marks is limited to the geographic territory served by our chapter, it may not solicit cash or in-kind donations from persons outside such territory nor may it use the Marks on the Internet and/or in conjunction with any news wire services without the Make-A-Wish Foundation s prior written approval. 6. In accordance with standards adopted by the BBB Wise Giving Alliance, Sponsor agrees that any solicitations relating to the Event must specify at the point of solicitation, and in a manner acceptable to the Make-A-Wish Foundation : (a) that the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Missouri is the benefiting organization; (b) the actual or anticipated portion of the purchase price that will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation ; (c) the duration of the campaign; and (d) any maximum or guaranteed minimum contribution amount. 7. In order to avoid inadvertently jeopardizing existing relationships between the Make-A-Wish Foundation and its donors, Sponsor agrees to receive approval from the Make- A-Wish Foundation before soliciting corporations, businesses, celebrities, sports teams, or individuals for cash or in-kind donations relating to the Event. 8. Sponsor represents to the Make-A-Wish Foundation that: (a) it will comply with all applicable laws during the planning, promotion and conduct of the Event; (b) all necessary insurance, licenses and permits will be obtained and will be in force through the conclusion of the Event; (c) the Event will result in no cost or expense to the Make-A-Wish Foundation whatsoever, unless expressly agreed in writing to the contrary; and (d) it will indemnify and hold the Make-A-Wish Foundation harmless from any and all claims of any kind or nature whatsoever arising out of, or in any way related to, the Event. 9. Nothing in this document shall be construed to authorize Sponsor, or any of its employees or representatives, to act as an agent of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Thus, for example, Sponsor may not open a bank account in the Make- A-Wish name, nor may it endorse or attempt to negotiate any checks made payable to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, all of which must be promptly forwarded to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for processing. 10. Make-A-Wish Foundation of Missouri cannot provide mailing lists of donors, vendors, board members and other affiliated constituencies. Nor can they guarantee attendance of of employees, wish kids or board members at the event.
