2 Trustees Annual Report For the year ended 31 st January, 2017 The trustees have the pleasure in presenting their report together with the financial statements for the year ended 31 January, 2017 Reference and Administrative Information Igbo Union Association c/o Igbo Welfare Union Glasgow Maryhill Community Central Hall 304 Maryhill Road Glasgow Banker: TSB Bank Accountant: BB Accounting Solutions 47 Broad Street Glasgow, G40 2QW Objectives and Activities The organisation's purposes are: 1. To promote the advancement of active citizenship; The Igbo Welfare Union will promote this objective through the development and teaching of civic values; the encouragement of voluntary activity and increasing the involvement of individuals in community activity; the promotion of community union, and sense of belonging among ethnic Igbos in Glasgow and its environs. 2. To promote the prevention or relief of poverty; The Union will provide a support network for poverty alleviation, health education and disaster relief amongst disadvantaged and needy communities, families and groups, particularly in Glasgow and Igboland; through training for work skills, promotion of social enterprise development, and encouragement of Fair Trade activities, the Union will work to prevent those who are poor from becoming poorer as well as preventing those who are at risk of being poor from becoming poor. The Union will also promote relief of those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantages. 3. To advance the promotion of equality and diversity; The Igbo Welfare Union will through advocacy and campaigning promote activities that will

3 address racial discrimination in employment, education, health, housing, and public services particularly for its members and the wider community. 4. To promote the advancement of education; The Igbo Welfare Union will promote activities that will advance capacity development, skills empowerment, training and research opportunity for its members and the wider community. 5. To promote the advancement of the arts, heritage, and culture; The Union will seek to promote awareness of the Igbo culture amongst Igbos and children of Igbo descent in the UK, whilst encouraging them to play their full role in the British society and will further advance British cultural life by promoting Igbo history, language, music, art, literature, and culture to the wider public. Sources of Fund Free will donations from members Achievements and Performance For the accounting period ended 31 January 2017, Igbo Union has been able to host three main events namely: Summer cultural event, Iriji festival and End of the year party; which promoted the Igbo culture, created awareness of Union to Glasgow community and interested neighbouring communities. Future Plans The group plans to hold 5 general meetings in a year, to help identify areas that need attention of the group in order to advance the stated objective. The Union will continue to carry out events that promote culture, arts, heritage, community development, equality and diversity like Summer cultural event, Iriji (Yam festival), and Christmas or end of the year party. In addition to the above plans, the Union plan: 1. To invite an Immigration expert to give talk to members about their immigration journey in the UK Date to be confirmed (DTC) 2. To invite a Mortgage Consultant to give talk to members about mortgage and how to get on the housing ladder (DTC) 3.To invite staff from Social Enterprise Organisation to give talk to members about setting up such enterprise (DTC)

4 4. To organise for Igbo Language classes (teacher and two support volunteers) to teach our kids during our meetings (DTC) 5. To invite MP/MSP/Councillors to speak to our members about their roles and how they can help members in their different constituencies (DTC). 6. To hold Traditional Coronation of Ezeigbo and Igbo Council of Chiefs in Scotland 7. And to look into getting Life Insurance Policy Cover for members collectively Names of Trustees who served during this accounting period:
