I must congratulate you for your comprehensive work and it has certainly been my pleasure to provide my comments as follow: This book is very well written and easy to read. The diagrams, flow charts and pictures are simple, yet comprehensive and lucid, which only enhances the reading experiences. The information contained in this book is up to date and carries recent information particularly in the management of erectile dysfunction. The clinical aspects are comprehensive incorporating evidence based medicine such as trial results, success rate, side effects and complications of various treatments. I particularly like the author's idea to highlight clinical proven pharmacological treatment options and not leaving out other traditional herbal options. This book contains information useful for both surgeon and physician a better understanding from the history and evolution of andrology to the mechanism and treatment of erectile dysfunction, and the psychosocial impact of this increasing recognized condition. I found the more surgical orientated topics such as varicocele, semen analysis and surgical options of erectile dysfunctions are well discussed and very comprehensive. The link between obesity and male infertility has been discussed in great details. Prenatal programming through intersecting endocrine and adipogenic signaling pathways of particularly of interest which have some similarity with my current research work on prenatal programming of maternal obesity on the off springs risk in developing glucose intolerance. The author described several medical conditions contributing to male reproductive dysfunction with emphasis on endocrine and hypothalamic causes. On the whole, this book contributes significantly to the knowledge of the area of urology and andrology. I believe it will provide excellent reference material for all clinician or general practitioner who has an interest in this field. I think it is very comprehensive and I congratulate you for maintaining a high standard throughout. He added- Chapter on History is very interesting but I would have liked to have the history of penile implant surgery included. Chapter on Varicocele - Most studies show that there is no benefit in treating subclinical varicoceles. Thermography is of academic interest and Venography is conducted before sclero-therapy, but scrotal duplex is now the gold standard in diagnosis. The issue of treatment of varicocele in the infertile male is still controversial and has been put in the book. The meta-analysis of a Cochrane Database system was however, criticized for poor design and it was concluded that there is a need for a large, properly conducted randomized controlled trial. According to the EAU guidelines, infertile males with an impaired semen analysis and a clinical varicocele and no other cause of infertility may benefit from varicocele repair, however, treatment should not be undertaken, unless there has been full discussion with the infertile couple regarding the uncertainties of treatment benefit. Male infertility and obesity Chapter is very well written that shows the pathogenesis of sub-fertility which is related to obesity. Regards David

All the chapters have been substantially rewritten and altered and updated with each chapter subdivided into subsections which is shown in the table of contents. Photographs that were shown at the beginning in the 1 st edition are displayed in appropriate chapters a few have been discarded. The book is greatly enlarged with subject matters in each chapter authoritatively discussed New colour illustrations, flow charts and tables are all welcome additions making the book more readable and easier to follow. An extremely well written and much praised monograph has metamorphosed into an excellent text book which I am confident will attract even more admiration and acclaim. S. Sen, FRCS

4 Dear Dr. Basu, I had the pleasure to read through the second edition of your publication Male Reproduction Dysfunction. It was with increasing interest that I noticed to what great extent it re-installs the knowledge presented in the 1st edition in a simple and easy way so as to be comprehensive even by non-specialists of this field. This second edition has indeed largely contributed to paving the way into understanding a wide range of secret pathways which have so far not, or at best vaguely, been uncovered. In the same time, the author has integrated the most updated topics that science has touched in male reproductive disorders to this day. Also, the numerous illustrations and charts made all subjects very simple. The clear printing and heavy paper in addition to the beautiful cardboard cover the publisher has used round off the attractive appearance of this excellent scientific hardcopy of the second edition of Male Reproduction Dysfunction. 5 Review of the Book- Male Reproductive Dysfunction- DR. S C BASU Male Reproductive Dysfunction- by Dr. S.C Basu- 2 nd edition, 2011, is an extensively revised, edited & updated version of the first edition. Practically every chapter has been expanded incorporating the current knowledge on the subject; the first chapter on the history of Andrology is more than three times the earlier version. The book can be divided into 3 sectionsfirst (3 chapters) covering the basic understanding, then erectile dysfunction (chapters 4 & 5) while the last 9 Chapters covers extensively the subject of male infertility. This edition has been enriched by a profusion of appropriately positioned colour diagrams & photographs that are a visual treat. Tables & Algorithms are also presented neatly to elucidate the written matter. The references are extensive covering practically everything known on the subject; this would be a great boon for postgraduates working on the matter to find crossreferences. Special mention must be made of very extensive coverage of varicocele, relation of obesity with infertility, Peyronie s disease & even effect of cell phone & microwaves on the male fertility. However, some deficiencies that must be mentioned are use at times of proprietary names of drugs and not mentioning the new age shunts for priapism. No doubt on the whole, this book is a good reference book for urologists, andrologists, endocrinologists & gynaecologists or anyone interested in the subject of male fertility/infertility. Prof. A.
