3 CLINICAL EXPERIENCE Obstetrics: I understood very well the importance of providing streamlined evidence based care to women to ensure safe mother and a healthy child. The importance of team work, multidisciplinary care and clinical governance has been highlighted in my training. I have been actively involved in risk management meetings, labour ward forums, multidisciplinary meetings. As an essential part of empowering the team I have been participating in formal and informal educational activities to midwives and junior trainees. The advanced labour ward practice module helped in further enhancing my clinical, surgical and team working skills. The element of case mixture of low risk and high risk cases in obstetrics always interested me. Promoting vaginal birth and reducing caesarean section have been my priorities for which I was actively promoting and performing external cephalic versions for breech presentations as well as provided excellent counselling at booking and post partum. Gynecology: Diligent workup, understanding patient s perspective, providing evidence based care and well informed discussions are the crucial steps for providing efficient service in gynaecology. I have to a large extent potentiated my basic surgical skills that are necessary for a consultant and confident in performing routine benign gynecological procedures. Taking up Laparoscopic surgery as my advanced training module, I have gained good experience in safely carrying out all benign laparoscopic procedures. I have also utilized my training sessions from Surrey University to develop my core knowledge in laparoscopic surgery. During my training for reproductive medicine and sub fertility I had the opportunity to be actively involved in clinical, lab, surgical and counselling sessions at St Mary s Hospital which is a tertiary referral unit for assisted conception in the Northwest. This knowledge and understanding the patient journey at a tertiary unit helped me in better counselling of couples attending our unit. Working in different units with people with different expertise, I was fortunate to develop skills in gynaecological scanning, outpatient hysteroscopy, HyCoSy for tubal assessment. I am also an accredited colposcopist and a BSCCP member. I have a diploma in family planning. Comparative study on efficacy of Direct Intraperitoneal Insemination and Direct Intrafollicular Insemination in the treatment of infertility. This was a randomised study involving fifty infertile couples. The study aimed evaluating the feasibility of these inexpensive methods in developing countries and assessing their success rates. This study was carried out at India s premier tertiary referral unit All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, under the guidance of my preceptor Dr S.Mittal after obtaining approval from local ethical committee. There was a successful pregnancy in the direct intra peritoneal insemination group. No complications were noted in either group. The study demonstrated the simplicity and safety of these procedures and the possibility of using them as alternatives to expensive assisted reproductive techniques.
