6 I- INTRODUCTION The fertility of dogs suffered a sharp decline over the past three decades as reported with a new study.

7 INTRODUCTION Decline in males fertility in dogs might be attributed to environmental contaminants, like for example; Heavy Metals

8 II- AIM OF THE STUDY 1- To evaluate the concentration of some heavy metals; Lead (Pb), Chromium (Cr), Cadmium (Cd) in male dogs in different Kosovo regions,

9 AIM OF THE STUDY 2- To evaluate Histopathological alterations resulted from the efficacy of heavy metals concentrations in testicular tissue of the examined dogs.

11 III- MATERIALS & METHODS

12 III.a. ANIMALS A total number of 100 dogs from a) Street, b) Shelter, c) Houses

15 (i)- Heavy Metals Evaluation Concentration of heavy metals (Pb, Cr,Cd) was determined by 1 Analytical weigher 2 Microwave 3 ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry)

16 (ii) Histopathological examination Tissue samples of the Testes were fixed in neutral buffered formalin 10%, dehydrated in ascending grade of alcohol, cleared and embedded in paraffin, sectioned at 5 μm thickness and stained by H & E and examined microscopically (Bancroft et al. (1996).

39 V- Conclusion Higher levels of toxic heavy metals play A serious role in the decline of fertility in male dogs in Kosovo.

40 V- Conclusion Our project study has a useful long term economic and health outcome. As if we could protect the dogs from the environmental contaminants, we can save animal health, fertility, and productivity.

41 V- Conclusion As dogs consider the 'man's best friend' and closest companion animal, We believe that the outcome results may offer a new piece of the puzzle over the reported significant decline in human semen quality and fertility.
