As your school district's food service provider, our primary goal is your student's overall wellbeing and growth with nutritious menus; innovative, student inspired dining environments; and wellness education programs that support their achievement! Enclosed is a summary of our nutrition and wellness programs that have been created for the new school year specifically for your students. Have a great school year! Our Menu Philosophy ARAMARK draws from an extensive database of age-segmented, dietitian-developed recipes to help districts meet or exceed the toughest state nutrition guidelines. INCLUDES: -l- Fresh vegetables and fruits + Salads with reduced fat dressings -I- Low and nonfat dairy options -l- Lean beef, chicken and fish products -l- Whole grains for increased -:- Reduced fat cheeses fiber.;. juice or light syrup packed fruits.;. 100% juice and water alternative beverages REDUCES: + Processed foods + Sugar and salt ELIMINATES: + Added trans fat + Deep fat frying + Candy and soda Our Wellness Commitments I. Serve nutritious menus that exceed current USDA requirements for all students (including those with special dietary needs) 2. Offer foods that are rich in key nutrients: whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables and low or non fat dairy products 3, Serve high-quality, safe foods that have no added trans fats and are low in total fat, salt and sugar 4. Promote breakfast participation and expand availability 5. Offer healthy, nutrient dense snacks 6. Source high-quality, environmentally responsible, local produce and products 7. Enable healthy lifestyles through nutrition awareness and education 8. Create healthy school environments - composting, recycling, green cleaning 9. Advance employee knowledge and sensitivity to health and wellness education 10. Provide legislative advocacy on behalf of our nation's students
3 Elementary & Secondary Programs Dining Environments We have created age-specific dining environments that promote healthy meal selection. excite students and increase student meal participation. Cool*Caf - A fun. food-courtinspired concept, designed especially for our elementary level customers. With colorful and engaging graphics and a variety of well-balanced menu options. the cafe encourages elementary students to make healthy food choices. Cool*Caf will be coming to your school district soon if it has not already arrived. 12 Spot - The lunchtime spot for middle school students. This high-energy dining environment reflects the lifestyle of our tween customers by highlighting friends, activities, and sports. with cool graphics that change seasonally. U.B.U. Lounge - An oasis where every high school student fits in and feels connected, this concept creates a fun, comfortable space for teens, complete with a couch area and music, where they can socialize, relax and fuel up for the demands of busy high school schedules. Both /2 Spot and UB.U/ounge are recipients of Nation's Restaurant News Menu Masters Award for Best On-Site Operator Menu. Wellness Menu Specials Our wellness menu specials developed by our chefs and nutritionists generate excitement by introducing new signature recipes, or putting new twists on popular favorites. IMPACT Jr. is the elementary menu specials program, featuring healthy lunch promotions, which encourage our youngest students to try exciting menu favorites. while communicating relevant nutrition and wellness messages. FUEL is the middle and high school menu specials program designed to combat menu fatigue and reinforce a healthy school lunch to get the fuel students need to participate in their favorite activities. 4 Special Event and Holiday Promotions In addition to the wellness menu specials. we also have special event and holiday promotions that are customized for each school. These celebrate holidays and national events like Election Day. health-related themes including National Nutrition Month or American Heart Month. and school-specific events. like homecoming or spring dances. 5 Nutrition Education Our nutrition education programs encourage students' development of healthy lifestyle habits and education in basics of good nutrition. ACE Nutrition Mascot Program Throughout the school year, our elementary school nutrition mascot,ace and his friends share the Stay Healthy wellness message through a monthly program. An educational gift with nutrition fun facts reinforces the importance of healthy eating, exercise and getting plenty of sleep with your youngest students. Please visit acefanclub.com to learn more. This year's theme is ACE's Active Adventures, which consists of different monthly adventures featuring various activities, sports, exercises, and healthy eating facts. Month Wellness lesson September October November December January Back to School Triathalon Mountain Active Arena Wild Winter February Winter Team Sport March Dance & Music April May Spring Sports Bike Tour USA Wellness Wise Newsletter The Wellness Wise monthly newsletter highlights nutrition tips for parents. Examples of information shared include: labels and snacking, meal planning and shopping, and eating more fruits and vegetables. Wellness Wise is provided to students to take home on a monthly basis. TreatYourself Right (TYR) is a middle and high school communication program that reinforces healthy choices and lifestyles. Through informative newsletters, signage, and nutrition tips. students are empowered to make the right decisions for health and wellness. Examples of lessons shared include: hydration. staying fit, and MyPyramid. TYR Newsletters will be provided to students on a quarterly basis. Nutrition Education Materials Monthly nutrition education materials are created to reinforce healthy eating with students as well as provide nutritional facts and figures. This year's program will focus on broad lessons, like: food portions, the main food groups, and reading labels. Also highlighted are monthly fruits and vegetables to educate and encourage students for regular consumption of fruits and vegetables. APPLES is an award-winning customizable K-12 nutrition education and wellness activity curriculum that teachers can customize for their students. This comprehensive bilingual apples program incorporates MyPyramid guidelines and other wellness standards from all SO states.
6 Additional Meal Opportunities Additional meal opportunities have been created to support today's typical student, who is active from early morning until the evening hours. Environmental Stewardship We value a system that respects our environmental responsibilities and encourages practices that reduce our environmental footprint and promotes sustainability. i AMP Up with BreakfastT M is a comprehensive breakfast program which includes more than 450 hot and cold items and cafeteria, classroom, and grab-n-go mobile cart service options to accommodate a variety of school building needs. Amp Up was the winner of Food Management Magazine's Best Concepts Award. Snack Factor is a program that has a selection of more than 150 healthy snack items that meet strict nutritional guidelines.
