1 DuPont Acelepryn Insecticide Technical Bulletin New Mode of Action for a New Level of Performance DuPont Acelepryn insecticide controls a wide range of turf damaging pests while minimising the impact on the environment. It is an entirely new insecticide class with a novel mode of action that delivers superior control of target pests. Acelepryn contains the new active ingredient Calteryx from DuPont which belongs to an entirely new class of chemistry called anthranilic diamides. The majority of turf insecticides belong to a handful of chemical classes and feature even fewer physiological modes of action. Over time, insects can, and have, become less susceptible to these chemical classes. Acelepryn represents a class of chemistry that has not previously been used on turf insects. It has minimal impact on beneficial arthropods, making it an excellent choice for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs. Calteryx Mode of Action Phase 1 Exposure Insect comes in contact with or ingests Calteryx, the active ingredient in Acelepryn insecticide. Phase 2 Activation Calteryx binds to and activates the ryanodine receptors located in the insect s muscle, and causes it to open. Phase 3 Paralysis and Death Calcium ions flow out of the open ryanodine receptors, depleting calcium needed for muscle contraction. Insect muscle paralysis leads to death. New Mode of Action Inspired by Nature DuPont Acelepryn is the first turf product featuring an active ingredient from the anthranilic diamide class of chemistry. This class was inspired by research into the insecticidal properties of ryanodine - a natural substance found in the bark of trees and shrubs of the genus Ryania. Calteryx, the active ingredient in Acelepryn, is a synthetic compound that affects the ryanodine receptors in the insect muscle fibre. These receptors regulate the flow of calcium into the cell cytoplasm to control muscle contraction. Acelepryn binds to the ryanodine receptor and causes it to remain open, resulting in a depletion of calcium ions that disrupts muscle contraction. This leads to muscle paralysis and death. The ryanodine receptors in the pests Acelepryn targets are 4 to 3, times more sensitive to anthranilic diamides than the receptors in mammals making it a safer option toward non-target species. This is one reason why Acelepryn has an excellent environmental and toxicological profile and an unscheduled poison rating.

3 Outstanding Handling and Environmental Profile DuPont Acelepryn is an excellent example of the DuPont commitment to creating more environmentally sensitive products. Since this time the company have broadened the sustainability commitments, with an eye toward developing safer and environmentally improved new products for key global markets. Reduced toxicity to humans and other non-target animals is a key goal in achieving a reduced environmental footprint. Outstanding Handling Profile Acelepryn is setting new standards in user safety. Acelepryn was granted reduced-risk status by the US EPA for applications to turfgrass and has been granted an unscheduled poison status in Australia. This has resulted in no requirements for personal protective equipment during application and no re-entry restrictions after application. All of which means you can use Acelepryn with confidence and re-assure your customers. 4 Outstanding Handling and Environmental Profile Studies show that DuPont Acelepryn has low impact on the environment when applied according to label recommendations. The binding of Acelepryn within the soil matrix, combined with low water solubility means it is likely to stay where it is applied and not move towards the surface or ground water. These charts demonstrate the lesser mobility of Acelepryn (Calteryx ), as a result of the low water solubility and higher soil binding than other turf pest products. These attributes, combined with the lowest application rates of any preventative turf products and its very low toxicity to most non-target animals, leads to a product with a very small environmental impact.

5 Performance Summary One Early Application Controls Multiple Pests A single, low dose application properly timed will provide 3-4 months protection from a wide variety of key turf pests. Season long (up to six months) protection from the key turf pests can be achieved with an early application at a higher dose. With higher doses also providing curative control, Acelepryn will give golf course superintendents, lawncare operators and landscape professionals consistent performance and flexible application timing. Since 23, leading entomologists throughout many parts of the world have evaluated DuPont Acelepryn for turf insect control. In that time, over 3 field trial protocols with independent university researchers have demonstrated that Acelepryn is effective against the key turf pest species.
