3 This brochure provides tips on how to maintain a healthy cholesterol level naturally. Good and bad cholesterol Cholesterol is a fat, which occurs naturally in the body. In fact there is only one cholesterol, even though we talk about good and bad cholesterol. Because good cholesterol (HDL cholesterol) helps remove excess cholesterol from the body it is referred to as good. Bad cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) transports cholesterol to all the cells in the body. What cells cannot use remains in the circulation and, if present in high amounts, can be deposited. Hence the name bad. Two thirds of all cholesterol is produced by the body, once third is derived from what we eat. As always, good health is your decision, i.e. by choosing a healthy and varied diet. 3

4 How do nutrients affect your health? 1. Red yeast rice helps maintain a healthy cholesterol level Red Yeast Rice is ordinary rice, which has been fermented. During this process the rice grains turn dark red and monacolin K is produced. Monacolin K helps maintain a healthy cholesterol level with a dose of 10 mg per day. 4

11 Five tips to control your cholesterol level 1. Eat less saturated fat 2. Also include oats and barley in your diet 3. Introduce vegetable Omega-3 into your diet 4. Use garlic 5.
