Bowers, MD The ASSH 1997 Specialty Day Program is designed for orthopaedic surgeons, hand surgeons, fellows, and residents in orthopaedic surgery. The program focuses on common problems in hand surgery which tend to produce divided opinion as to methods of management. The topics and speakers have been chosen with the goal of presenting useful information about what is timely, acceptable, and cost-effective care for common hand/wrist conditions. Topics will address issues such as trigger finger release; dorsal fracture dislocation of the PIP joint; transverse finger tip amputation through the germinal matrix; surgical management of trapeziometacarpal arthritis; carpal tunnel syndrome; cubital tunnel syndrome; surgical DRU joint problems. Proposals submitted for funding must make use of recognized and well documented outcomes instruments such as the SF-36, Sickness Impact Profile, Arthritis Impact Measurement Scale, etc., and must address an issue of importance to hand surgery. There are no specific eligibility requirements, although the Society encourages applications from surgeons and other allied health personnel who have a primary interest in hand surgery. The guide is intended for use by hand surgeons, secretaries, insurance clerks, and other personnel who need to know the ICD-9-CM diagnostic codes in order to complete insurance forms and other documents. Diagnoses are listed in both alphabetical and numerical order; the alphabetical section contains a listing of the common name descriptions used in hand surgery together with the ICD-9-CM codes and published ICD-9-CM descriptions. Also included in the binder is an expanded index to Volume 1 of the ICD-9- CM.
