I managed varied types of spinal trauma including cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacral fracture, both conservatively and surgically. I am experienced in applying halo and cervical traction. I spent 4 years in the spinal unit at RNOH, the last one of which was a fellowship under Mr Wilson and Mr Lee dedicated to adult deformity and lower back disorders. I also had the chance to work under a neurosurgeon that insured exposure to intradural tumors and dural leaks. The rest was dedicated to managing paediatric spinal deformity. I assisted in more than 150 scoliosis cases between 3 consultants 4

Trauma teams: my work at Cairo University Hospital as trauma registrar, taught me how to achieve our team's success during a trauma call, through understanding my role within the team and actively exchanging ideas with our team members though clear communication, utilizing the competencies of each team member towards saving the patient's life. I also lead our team when my consultants are away, taking the duties of wards patients' care, operating theatre lists in addition to running fracture clinics. 2. Football teams: I was the leader of our regional football team at Cairo University. We ranked second in Our success was due to using our strengths by knowing each member's capabilities and compensating for other members' weaknesses and having a good plan to work as team towards success. Mangerial and Organizational Skills The capacity to develop constructive effective working relationships is crucial in Orthopaedics practice. The ability to appropriately delegate clinical responsibilities as well as having a broad overview of all aspects of Orthopaedics service are integral parts in the running of a successful unit. The Orthopaedics, surgical units & Cairo University with which I have been associated have been conducive to the development of my basic management skills. In these units I have been responsible for the following duties: 1) Assisting in the Organization of Final medical examinations in Cairo University. 2) Organising the weekly scientific teaching sessions for under graduates. 3) Organisation of theatre lists and working ward rounds. 4) Sorting out the monthly SHO on call rotas. 5) Monthly Morbidity & Mortality meetings. 6) Liaising with the Drug company representatives, to provide funding for Medical books, Digital cameras & sponsoring meetings. 8

This included two courses (two weeks each repeated every six weeks), one on the basic fracture management and the second on basic orthopaedic pathology. Interests outside medicine In my perspective, in order to be a good doctor one has to strike the right balance between work and home life, in addition to my rich fulfilling family life I have a passion for a wide range of subjects outside medicine. I love photography & gardening, I have a keen interest in history, and this has inspired my love of reading and travel. I have travelled to most countries of Europe and the Middle East. 9
