Training and Experience General I spent the first 12 months after qualifications in Cairo as a house officer in different specialties including general medicine, general surgery, gynecology

During these periods I acquired a wide experience in the fields mentioned above, this included the whole range of outpatient and ward responsibility as a Resident Medical Surgical Officer.

I performed a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as lumber puncture, bone marrow aspiration, central line insertion, and drainage of pleural and pericardial fluid.

5 Training and Experience General I spent the first 12 months after qualifications in Cairo as a house officer in different specialties including general medicine, general surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, and Pediatrics. I also spent the subsequent year as SHO in Pediatrics in Cairo. During these periods I acquired a wide experience in the fields mentioned above, this included the whole range of outpatient and ward responsibility as a Resident Medical Surgical Officer. I received special training during my Pediatric appointment where I also performed simple surgical and obstetric procedures. I performed a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as lumber puncture, bone marrow aspiration, central line insertion, and drainage of pleural and pericardial fluid. During my appointment as a registrar in Pediatrics in Nablus I supervised the training of the recently qualified doctors and I was in charge of a busy acute Pediatric Unit. While doing an attachment at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, I had the opportunity to observe the practice in the Pediatric department and consolidate my experience in general Pediatric

6 CARDIOLOGY I have been involved in the field of Pediatric Cardiology since September 1985 when I joined Professor Leni Bleden at Beilinson Medical Center. Beilinson Center is a busy regional referral center where I received specialist training in the full range of cardiac investigation ECG monitoring, M- mode. 2-D, Doppler and transoesophageal Echocardiography. I gained valuable experience in acute coronary cases and treatment of cardiac emergencies and arrhythmias. I also participated in the outpatient follow up department where I acquired experience in long term management of children with congenital heart disease as I have been fully involved in performing diagnostic cardiac catheterization angiography, and obtaining endomyocardial biopsy. I am still closely linked with the center by attending regular seminars and being involved with the program of continued medical education. As a member of different Socities, I take part in organizing regular regional meetings Currently we are in the process of developing a modern cardiological services center for the region. I also attend many of the National and international cardiology conferences and keep up to date with most recent advanced in cardiology.

I am also conducting a study to detect the prevalence of major illnesses in our society and

8 RESEARCH PROJECTS I am currently undertaking a review study involving the prevalence and management of cardiomyopathy in children in Palestine. I am also conducting a study to detect the prevalence of major illnesses in our society and trying to establish the commonest causes of mortality. N.B. I was lucky to be the first Pediatric Cardiologist in Palestine in 1987.
