2 Course Introduction: The First Aid course is specifically designed for those individuals working or intending to work in humanitarian operations oversees in often remote and dangerous environments where immediate high levels of care are not always available. This course is intended as a specialized occupational course for the individual requiring a good understanding of pre-hospital care and the implications of an isolated environment with limited equipment for extended periods of time. Emphasis is placed on participants achieving a high level of understanding and realistic practical scenarios. Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the delegates will be able to: Assess patient condition Apply appropriate life-saving protocols Stabilize and package victims for transportation Monitor and record patient vital signs Describe basic anatomy and physiology Perform Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Who Should Attend? This course is intended for those who wants basic understanding of emergency care as well as a basic grasp or related clinical theories and to people in the construction workplace or general community who wish to gain standard first aid skills at their workplace or personal benefit. 3 environmental hazards & considerations search and rescue concepts scene assessment flow chart mechanisms of injuries Communication communication concepts and skills Interacting with patients Understand main process performance parameters of different desalination processes. Practice basic process modeling requirements and available techniques, and perform simplified process performance evaluation. Day 2: Basic Anatomy and Physiology/Patient Assessment body systems diagnostic signs primary and secondary patient assessment history taking and reporting triage in multiple casualty incidents Airway Management causes and prevention of airway obstruction or cessation of breathing clearing obstructed airways oxygen therapy, suction Therapy Thoracic Trauma signs, symptoms and managing techniques for: o pneumothorax o haemothorax flail chest Day 3: Cardiac Arrest factors leading to cardiac arrest cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques: o 1 $ 2 man o adult, child, infant Circulatory Emergencies blood pressure measurement and assessment HSE158 REV. 001 PAGE 3 OF 5

4 Internal/External bleeding and management Signs, symptoms and management of shock Day 4: Soft Tissue Injuries features and use of closures, dressings and bandages assessment and treatment of injuries and wounds to eyes, ears, nose, throat and teeth assessment and treatment of burns Musculoskeletal/CNS Injuries fractures, dislocations, sprains/strains assessment of unconscious casualties head injuries causes, mechanisms and management assessment and management of injury to spine & spinal cord Day 5: Medical Emergencies abdominal injuries seizures, diabetes, epilepsy poisons, stings, bites human and animal Heat and cold injuries Extrication and Rescue principles and techniques of stabilization and extrication preparing and packaging patients for evacuation Specialized rescue o Mountain, ice, cold, marine, swift water, etc. o knots, slings & harnesses o equipment improvisation first aid kits and equipment Accident report forms Course Requirement: Hand s on practical sessions, equipment and software will be applied during the course if required and as per the client s request. 5 Course Certificate: International Center for Training & Development (ICTD) will award an internationally recognized certificate(s) for each delegate on completion of training.
