4 1999 Queen s University, Department of Physical Therapy Course Coordinator, Research Methods in Rehabilitation Queen s University, Department of Physical Therapy Course Coordinator, Research Methods in Rehabilitation; Advanced Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy Management Session Lecturer, Neurophysiology Guest Lecturer, Orthopedics Physical Therapy, Special Topics in PT Queen s University, Department of Physical Therapy Course Coordinator, Advanced Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy Management; Neurology Guest Lecturer, Special Topics in Physical Therapy, Sports Physiotherapy Educational Project Initiatives 2013 Proposed Work Study Program: Functional Enhanced Anatomy Training (FEAT) for Physical Education & Kinesiology Anatomy Course, University of Toronto Student Trainers will be hired from year 2 PE/Kin to work in pairs to provide groups of approximately 30 students, enrolled in 1st year anatomy, applied anatomy problem solving sessions twice weekly. In each session, a real-life example (a.k.a. the Interesting Conundrum in Kinesiology or ICK ) will be presented which incorporates the subject matter taught the previous week(s). The aims of the FEAT Program are: 1) enhance the year 1 learners understanding of how the basic anatomical structure along with biomechanics and physiology (when needed) translates into function and dysfunction; 2) review basic anatomical underpinning when necessary; and 3) facilitate problem solving within the group, providing examples of effective learning through study tips/online resources/hard copy resources when appropriate. Reciprocal benefits to senior students anticipated: opportunity to review anatomy on an ongoing basis link anatomy more clearly to biomechanics and real life examples opportunity to develop mentorship and leadership skills Department of Physical Therapy, University of Toronto Founder & Coordinator, Peer Facilitator Project Students from year 2 of the MSc PT Program were selected to act as Peer Facilitators for small groups of year 1 students throughout the year one MSK unit. Peer facilitators conducted review sessions once weekly for groups of 6-10 students for 15 weeks. 4 P a g e T e a c h i n g C V J. L a p r a d e, P h D

5 The aims of the project were to establish a non-threatening environment in which senior PT students: could share information and experiences in regards to MSK content to year 1 students; would engender and maintain an enthusiasm for, and interest in, the course material covered towards the year 1 students; provide additional clarification, demonstrations or examples of appropriate clinical skills and reasoning for student peers. assess skills and provide feedback to junior students where appropriate; Reciprocal benefits to senior students included: opportunity to review basic MSK assessment & evaluative skills preparation for upcoming MSK internship (by consistent review) opportunity to develop mentorship and leadership skills HKPU: Department of Rehabilitation Sciences Coordinator, Anatomy Plastination Project Responsible for: Planning, preparing and arrangement of constructing the equipment and ordering supplies for plastinating cadaveric specimens. Training of technician for the dissection of cadaveric specimens Co-organizer, Good Teaching and Learning Project This project entailed first surveying the faculty members of the RS Department (both OT & PT) regarding their good teaching and learning practices. Following survey results, four main categories/themes were developed and faculty members were asked to provide examples and evidence of their good teaching and learning practices in any or all categories. Subsequently this information was collated in multimedia formats and produced to a CD-ROM. Founder & Head Supervisor, Student Athletic Trainer (STAR) Project This project was initiated in order to provide hands-on experience to HKPU physiotherapy students as trainers for the university sports teams (a first for any of the seven universities in Hong Kong). I was responsible for the preparation of trainers, weekly coordination between teams, coaches and trainers and ultimately the supervision of 79 student trainers. Seven Supervising Trainers (all physiotherapists with sports experience) were coordinated to assist me in supervising the students daily in the training room and on weekend competitions. In addition to time dedicated to weekly planning and coordination of the programme, I personally supervised 2-3 evenings a week (4 hours per night) and conducted or arranged all training sessions. 5 P a g e T e a c h i n g C V J. L a p r a d e, P h D

6 HKPU: Department of Rehabilitation Sciences Founder, Peer Teaching Project In order to encourage students to take more responsibility for their own learning of subject matter, a Peer Teaching concept with the subject of Anatomy was developed. Students were arranged in four groups of eight in the lab and each week, two of the eight were responsible for teaching a portion of the lab material to the group. The purpose was to encourage self-preparation, learning by teaching, and enabling the students to problem solve together. Queen s University: Department of Physical Therapy Founder and Organizer, Winter Adapted Games The Games were established to provide a day of winter fun activity and participation for children and adolescents in the Kingston community with physical, emotional or learning challenges. Participants were partnered with Buddies from the Physical Therapy and Physical Education departments at Queen s University. The day was entirely organized and run by student volunteers and funded by charitable donations from the community and university departments. Outcomes for Education Publications: Produced by HKPU Education Development Center Good Teaching Practices CD Classroom Management (handbook & interview video) Lab Teaching (video clip) Project supervision (handbook) Conference Presentations for Educational Projects 2011 Judi Laprade; Nota Klentrou; Cathy Evans; Lora Giangregorio; Phil Chillibeck.
