1 WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY Muscle Stimulation TENS FEATURED BRANDS 8 algeos.com
2 Actual size LA4891 Description 10g geko Device Powered by OnPulse technology, the non-invasive geko device triggers the body's built in mechanisms to increase blood circulation which can help in a range of conditions. Small Portable Lightweight One Size Fits All Small electrical impulses gently stimulate the common peroneal nerve behind the knee which in turn activates the muscle pumps of the lower leg that return blood towards the heart. In this way, neuromuscular stimulation in the lower limb emulates the process normally achieved by walking but without the patient having to move or exert energy and without discomfort. A simple, self-adhesive device that is applied to the back of each knee, the disposable, one-size-fits-all geko device is designed to avoid the need for more complex procedures. The Geko is designed for the following... to increase blood circulation for the prevention and treatment of oedema that could arise from a range of conditions for promoting wound healing for the treatment of venous insufficiency and ischemia for the prevention of venous thrombosis How it works: The geko device increases blood circulation through neuromuscular electro stimulation to the common peroneal nerve. Small electrical impulses, powered by onpulse technology, gently activate the muscle pumps of the lower leg, emulating the blood flow rate normally achieved by walking; upto 70%.¹ Ultrasound comparisons showing enhanced blood flow in superficial femoral vein with the device applied - greater than a 2-fold increase in blood flow, once every second.² at rest device active References: 1. Personal Communication, Dr D. S Bain, William Harvey Research Institute. 2. Above graphs, FirstKind Limited. Continued on next page... 9
3 How to use it... Find the location where the device is to be secured. It can be found on the outside of the leg, just below the level of the knee, at the centre of the fibula head. The fibula head can be felt as a round protrusion at the very top of the fibula bone. Using the grey abrasive pad, gently exfoliate the area of skin that will make contact with the electrodes (once a week should be sufficient for this process - DO NOT over exfoliate, especially if the skin is fragile or may be damaged through abrasion) and then wipe thoroughly with the electrode preparation wipe. For best results, remove any excess hair and moisturiser if present. After 30 seconds, peel off the protective film and secure the device to a straight leg so that the raised Indicator line on the device (marked with arrows) is positioned at the centre of the fibula head. The head of the device should be positioned towards the front of the leg with the tail of the device wrapped around and to the rear of the leg below the crease of the knee. The geko device is designed to stimulate the common peroneal nerve. There are other methods of locating the common peroneal nerve. Use a short press/click of the button (0.5 seconds) to activate the device (the device will start once the button Is released) and further short clicks to set the appropriate level reached when there is a discernable movement of the specified muscles In the lower leg. To accommodate any variation in stimulus due to leg position changes, simply turn the setting up or down. There are 7 levels (indicated by the flashing light); in most cases levels 3 or 4 are ideal. To reduce the levels, one-by-one, use a longer click (1 to 2seconds) and to turn off the device completely, hold the button down until the light stops flashing. For additional adhesion, apply one of the supplied adhesive strips over the device. Size NV3550 Geko Device (Pair) NV3551 Geko Device + Adhesive 10
4 Wearable Technology Micro-Z System For lower limb micro circulation. The innovative Silver-Thera Stocking & Micro-Z Mini is a knitted garment electrode which conducts energy (electrotherapy) to the foot and leg. Energy is delivered into the Silver-Thera Stocking by the Micro-Z Mini Stimulator which promotes micro-circulation. The Silver-Thera Stocking is highly conductive and is made of silver treated nylon fibres combined with Dacron Fires. The Silver-Thera Stocking is soft and comfortable to wear. It is very durable and is washable! For optimum results, the Silver Thera Stocking should be worn daily while reading, watching TV - even while sleeping to help relieve neuropathic pain and get a better night s rest. TheraCream - Electotherapy skin prep for use with Intelligent Textiles. Increases skin conductivity for superior electrotherapy treatment. Also helps severely dry and cracked skin. Indications: Diabetic Neuropathy Pain relief Increase range of motion Prevent Venous Thrombosis Retard Disuse Atrophy RSD Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Soft tissue injuries Relax muscle spasms Therapy While Sleeping... The human body goes into a natural healing cycle 70% of growth hormones are produced Fibroblast cells are more active Micro-Z-Mini promotes microcirculation while enhancing the body s own healing mechanism Microamperage Current Promotes Soft Tissue Healing (How Micro-Z works...) Cheng et al. (1982) cited direct currents at 500 ua (microamp) resulted in a 500% increase in ATP. The same ranges of stimulus intensity greatly enhanced amino acid incorporation (member transport). With currents higher than 1000 ua at signicant drop in ATPproduction resulted. Protein synthesis was also seen to be greatly increased by microamperage electrical current. Becker et al. (1967) stated that externally applied electrical currents stimulate biologic homeostasis, which activates feedback mechanisms, and therefore resulted in tissue repair and replacement. 5 TENS Electrotherapy Sock Conductive garments are an easy and effective alternative way of applying electrotherapy to either larger concentrated areas, more fragile and delicate areas and/or out of reach areas. The patient will receive 100% coverage of the garment treatment area due to the high silver content woven through the entire garment. Using Electrotherapy conductive garments as an in-home modality is ideal for patients who struggle with: Arthritis CTS (Carpel Tunnel Syndrome) Sprains and fractures Repetitive strain disorders Sports injuries Swelling/Oedema and post operative swelling Excessive perspiration where conventional electrodes won t stay on their skin Description PR0418 TENS Sock Can be connected to any Physioworx TENS Machine Physioworx TENS Machines CH1 ON/OFF & Amplitude Control CH2 ON/OFF & Amplitude Control CH1 output receptacle LCD Panel Visit page 150, to view some of our TENS range.
