ABOUT PI Pleased to meet you! The Positivity Institute (PI) is a positively deviant organisation dedicated to the research and practice of well-being science for life, school and work. PI s BHAG (big, hairy, audacious goal) is to create flourishing lives and increase the well-being of the world! T he force for positive change is within us all. Famous humanistic psychologist Carl Rogers referred to it as the actualising tendency our innate desire for growth and development. And, whilst there has been an ever-increasing thirst for knowledge as to peak performance and optimal human development, it wasn t until the Positive Psychology movement emerged in the late 1990s that the science allowed us to identify the essential psychological needs we all have and strategies we can take to increase our overall well-being. Positive psychology is the science of optimal human functioning for individuals, groups, teams, organisations, communities and society. The science of Positive Psychology is now close to 20 years old and merging with fields like Neuroscience, Medicine, Education, Economics and Business. The research base, whilst growing, is full to the brim with possibilities for applications in the real world! Those who were the brave pioneers have already gathered some evidence to attest to its benefits. The Positivity Institute was created and launched with the aim to bring this science to life and to continue as an Institute to investigate and add to the knowledge base of Positive Psychology. Our aim is to create flourishing lives and increase the well-being of the world. In our profession, this is known as a BHAG a big, hairy, audacious goal! We hope you can join us in some way to attain this goal! THE POSITIVITY INSTITUTE 2 THEPOSITIVITYINSTITUTE.COM.AU
ABOUT SUZY Meet Our Founder Dr. Suzy Green is a leader in the complementary fields of Coaching Psychology and Positive Psychology having conducted a world-first study on evidence-based coaching as an Applied Positive Psychology. Suzy has since conducted a number of scientific studies on evidence-based coaching to highlight its effectiveness in improving goal attainment, resilience and well-being ( us for copies). Suzy is also an identified global expert in the integration of Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology, having published and presented on the topic globally. In a world-first study on evidence-based coaching by our Founder, Dr. Suzy Green, results showed that a 12 week cognitivebehavioural solution-focused coaching program increased goal attainment and psychological well-being. In a follow up, study results showed that evidence-based coaching also significantly reduced levels of depression. Dr. Suzy Green, D.Psyc. (Clin.) MAPS Founder of The Positivity Institute THEPOSITIVITYINSTITUTE.COM.AU 3 THE POSITIVITY INSTITUTE
PI SCHOOL PROGRAM PI School Services PI School Services help schools to flourish. Our evidence-based approach enhances student, staff and whole-school well-being. We re recognised global leaders in Positive Education with a proven track record in successfully applying the latest scientific research to create positive school cultures. Our expertise is in translating the latest research and practice into innovative Positive Education programs that transform thinking and behaviour crucial to positive change and well-being. THE POSITIVITY INSTITUTE 4 THEPOSITIVITYINSTITUTE.COM.AU
PI SCHOOL PROGRAM Why PI School? Is Your School Flourishing? Does your school have an effective scientifically based well-being or pastoral care program? How much does your school focus on welfare in comparison to creating a proactive wellbeing strategy? Are your students and staff flourishing? How can your school help reach the target of 51% of the world s population flourishing by 2051 as articulated by the Founding Father of Positive Psychology, Professor Martin Seligman? Why Positive Psychology in Schools? Whilst historically, schools may have aimed for academic excellence as sole evidence for their success, there are growing numbers of schools who are now acknowledging the need to develop students in a more holistic way. With a stronger focus on well-being, much of this is in recognition of the increasing statistics on psychological distress and mental illness in our children and adolescents, and the realisation of the need to take a more proactive, rather than reactive approach to mental health. The Positivity Institute is a leader in Positive Education in Australia and globally. Dr. Suzy Green, our Founder, has been a pioneer and leader in the field having worked with schools including Knox Grammar, Loreto Kirribilli, Tully State High, Ballarat Grammar School, Perth College, John Wollaston Anglican College, Georgiana Molloy Anglican School, Fahan School, Tasmania and Kurri Kurri High School. Positive Education Positive Education aims to provide a wholeschool approach to well-being and is increasingly being implemented through the provision of bespoke Positive Education Programs. Positive Education Programs build on a school s strengths and what its currently doing well combined with an integrated adoption of new approaches to well-being, primarily based on the science of Positive Psychology. Positive Education is the application of well-being science into an educational setting aimed at increasing the resilience, (achievement) and well-being of students, staff and whole school communities (Green, 2014). THEPOSITIVITYINSTITUTE.COM.AU 5 THE POSITIVITY INSTITUTE
BESPOKE SOLUTIONS Our Approach Our approach to Positive Education is bespoke. Using a collaborative approach, we systematically and methodically identify the specific needs of the school in the planning phase and design tailored solutions. Our programs are based on the RAW Model of Flourishing (Green & Palmer, 2018) and the 8M Foundations of Flourishing (Green 2018). The RAW model highlights the interplay of resilience, achievement and well-being. The 8M Model identifies 8 key pathways or ways to wellbeing. Each of the 8 components has been identified in research and practice to be key psychological skills required for a flourishing life. We help the world to flourish by creating meaningful and sustainable positive change in individuals, schools and workplaces. We re recognised world leaders in applying cutting-edge scientific research to sustainably transform well-being. Dr Suzy Green, Founder, The Positivity Institute THE POSITIVITY INSTITUTE 6 THEPOSITIVITYINSTITUTE.COM.AU
BESPOKE SOLUTIONS Our Approach We value the opportunity to provide evidence for return on investment and utilise both objective and subject measurements. This enables us to review performance against mutually agreed goals. As the father of business management, Peter Drucker, famously once said, If you can t measure it, you can t improve it. And at PI, we re passionate about the use of scientifically valid and reliable measures. The measures we utilise are both scientifically sound and user-friendly. These include, but are not limited to, the Mental Toughness Questionnaire (MTQPlus); VIA Character Strengths Assessment; Gallup Strengths-Finder; Strengths Profile; Work on Well-being (WOW) Assessment; Global Leadership Well-being Survey (GLWS); Hogan Assessment Systems (Leadership Forecast Series); Leadership Effectiveness (LEA); The Leadership Circle; AWE Schools Survey and Voice Climate Inventory.
