3 AT RISK POPULATIONS The population that is exposed to the occurrence of a vital event which has caused diminished capacities, and has left them particularly susceptible to harmful circumstances.

4 Definitions Human trafficking is a form of modern slavery where people profit from the control and exploitation of others. Trafficking in which a commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such an act has not attained 18 years of age; or the recruitment, harboring transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for labor or services, through the use of force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of subjection to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage or slavery. -US Dept. of State

5 A Few Statistics The International Labor Organization estimates 24.9 million victims of forced labor & human trafficking globally, this includes 5.5 billion children; 4.8 million forced sexual exploitation 99% of victims in the commercial sex industry are women and girls forced labor and human trafficking is a $150 billion industry 31,600 total cases reported to National Hotline in the past eight years US Department of State estimates 17,500 to 20,000 victims trafficked into the US annually. (This likely underestimates the full scope of the cases.)
