1 UNIVERSITY OF PUGET SOUND SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL THERAPY ADVISING MANUAL PREREQUISITES FOR ADMISSION TO THE DOCTOR OF PHYSICAL THERAPY PROGRAM WASHINGTON COMMUNITY & TECHNICAL COLLEGE COMMON COURSE NUMBERING Students must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and may prepare for Physical Therapy while pursuing any major course of study. Some majors may be designed as pre-physical Therapy, but students are cautioned to not assume that programs designed as such will necessarily benefit their application. 1. Human Anatomy and Physiology (laboratories must be included): EXSC 221 & 222 or equivalent. 2. Fundamental Chemistry (laboratories must be included): CHEM 110 & 120, or CHEM 115 & 230, or equivalent. 3. General College Physics (laboratories must be included): PHYS 111 & 112, or PHYS 121 & 122, or equivalent. 4. Elements of Applied Statistics: MATH 160, or PSYC 201 & 301, or equivalent. 5. Human Behavior: One course in Psychology or Sociology emphasizing human behavior or disability. Puget Sound courses that fulfill the requirement include PSYC 101 Introduction to Psychology; PSYC 320 Psychological Disorders; SOAN 101 Introduction to Sociology; SOAN 202 The Family in Society: Critical Perspectives; SOAN 206 Deviance and Social Control; or SOAN 370 Disability, Identity, and Power. Prerequisite courses should be completed within 10 years of entry into the program. If a longer time has elapsed, the applicant must submit a letter explaining how the knowledge has been kept current. All prerequisite courses must be taken for a letter grade, and students must earn at least a "B" (3.0) grade in each course. Because course content can be divided into specific courses in different ways, the faculty highly recommends that each science prerequisite course sequence be completed at a single college or university. Questions about prerequisite course equivalencies should be directed in writing to the Office of Admission, accompanied by a course description including the name of the school and an unofficial transcript of the coursework completed. Prior to submission of the application for admission, all evaluations are unofficial. In addition, unofficial evaluations are completed only between May 1 and October 1.
