10 Key Improvement Areas (KIA s) Initial analysis of the data provided in the National Quality Report 2011 demonstrates that national priorities are focused on four key areas: o o o o Skill development in continuous quality development Care planning (incorporating assessment) Support for carers Education provision
11 2011 recommendations for Federal and State Government: 1. Support system level, improvement focused change by supporting collaborative effort across the sector. 2. Promote and disseminate currently available resources and tools to support the spread of innovation and reduce duplication of improvement effort. 3. 17 Sign up phase Step 1: Specialist Palliative Care Service (SPCS) due to commence a new NSAP cycle, receives NSAP sign up kit. Step 2: SPCS nominate a NSAP executive sponsor and liaison officer. Step 3: SPCS complete and return NSAP sign up documentation, receives NSAP self assessment planning kit.

19 Step 2: SPCS nominate a NSAP executive sponsor and liaison officer Executive sponsor support is vital o Authority to make quality decisions & allocate resources o Understanding of & interest in day to day operations o Good to have involvement attend 1 or 2 meetings Note: don t aim too high or too low Executive Sponsor role includes o Required to sign & return NSAP service agreement o Endorsement of the self assessment report prior to submission o Endorsement of summary of key improvement areas o Receipt of organisations State, Territory & National comparative report from NSAP

Liaison officer receives NSAP self assessing kit.
