2 Dear Colleagues, It is our great pleasure and honour to invite and welcome you to the Educational Workshop Advances in Predictive, Preventive and Personalised Medicine (PPPM), to be held in Budapest, Hungary. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, the European Association for Predictive, Preventive and Personalised Medicine (EPMA) and Quintess Knowledge Center, Budapest, we are pleased to announce that the venue of the first joint Workshop will be in one of the beautiful conference centers of the Hungarian capital, the Hotel Ramada Plaza Budapest, on November 30 - December 1, The hotel is located on the Buda side of the Danube bank, opposite to the picturesque Margaret Island. Why integrative medical approach by PPPM as the medicine of the future? PPPM is the new integrative concept in healthcare sector that enables to predict individual predisposition before onset of the disease, to provide targeted preventive measures and create personalised treatment algorithms tailored to the person. The expected outcomes are conducive to more effective population screening, prevention early in childhood, identification of persons at-risk, stratification of patients for the optimal therapy planning, prediction and reduction of adverse drug-drug or drug-disease interactions relying on emerging technologies, such as pharmacogenetics, pathology-specific molecular patters, sub/cellular imaging, disease modelling, individual patient profiles, etc. Education in integrative medicine People from various walks of life and socio-economic status are increasingly demanding to be better informed of anticipated changes in their health status as they progress through life. Although not simple, it is now feasible to predict and prevent tissue/organ deregulation associated with predisposition to particular pathologies such as premature aging, diabetes mellitus, neurodegenerative processes, cardiovascular disorders and cancer. Essential components of this approach is the professional education including innovative diagnostic technologies, targeted prevention of common human pathologies, optimal treatment strategies thereby resulting in substantial improvement of the quality of life. The examples provided at our Workshop are based on well-recognized expertise, scientific publications and international patents. A panel of leading world experts and authorities of the international issue-related associations contribute to the Workshop by addressing relevant issues such as patient profiling, individualized therapy planning and advanced healthcare. One of the central issues treated by the Workshop is the screening for predisposition of healthy individuals to potential pathologies later in life. 2
3 Book Series Advances in Predictive, Preventive and Personalised Medicine, EPMA / Springer This book series ( creates the robust scientific platform for our Educational Workshop, which overviews multidisciplinary aspects of advanced bio/medical approaches and innovative technologies. Integration of individual professional groups into the overall concept of PPPM is a particular advantage of this book series. Expert recommendations focus on the cost-effective management tailored to the person in health and disease. Principal audiences This Educational Workshop is for everyone! Here you can learn a new philosophy in medicine, novel trends in healthcare and bio/medical education. These may help you and your family to define your own way of creating a well chosen life-style. Our Workshop provides important information for individuals of various professional and scientific backgrounds. Professionals can consider the general concept of multidisciplinary approaches and learn the mindset of border areas and other scientific branches. The Host of the Workshop QUINTESS Knowledge Center as a non-profit organization has the mission to introduce newest, evidence-based methods of health care and prevention of diseases in Hungary and on international level. It promotes prevention-focused lifestyle, diagnostic and therapeutic methods in medicine. The Knowledge Center organizes informative programs, with accredited and credit-based college trainings, and scientific conferences. The spreading of knowledge creating a basis for raising the general awareness and the integration of preventive medicine into the health care system is one of the main goals of Quintess Knowledge Center. In addition to the high quality scientific program of the Educational Workshop, we hope to provide a friendly atmosphere to find new cooperations and personal contacts. We hope that the information provided at our Workshop will stimulate further discussions to address many issues in relation to the future practice of integrative medicine. We wish you a pleasant meeting! The Organizing Committee Dr. Vincenzo Costigliola Prof. Dr. Olga Golubnitschaja Dr. Filippo Ongaro Prof. Dr. György Fekete 3
