The goal of this study is to develop objective measures of the built environment for 30,000 participants in the Nurses Health Study and examine associations with physical activity and weight-related outcomes. (September August 2011, $371,878) Co- Kinley Trust Grant Competition, Purdue University: An Integrative Examination of Psychosocial and Environmental Predictors of Youth Physical Activity (Dr. Alan Smith, Co-PI). The goal of this study is to examine the interactive effects of peer relationships and the built environment on physical activity motivation and behaviors among middle school youth. (July 2007 July 2012, $19,500) Harvard University, Purdue subcontract with Harvard School of Public Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: Special Interest Project (SIP) 10, MA-ME Policy Research Network Participating Center. The goal of this project was to conduct physical activity policy research. (September September 2009, $13,800) Harvard University, Purdue subcontract with Harvard School of Public Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: SIP , MA-ME Policy Research Network Participating Center. Dr. Troped continued to collaborate with Harvard and other members of the Physical Activity Policy Research Network (PAPRN), conducting policy studies and developing a research agenda. (September September 2007, $15,462) U.S. Forest Service: Contribution of Trails to Adults Physical Activity - Supplemental Funding for Data Analysis. The Forest Service provided supplemental funding for data processing, analyses and manuscript development for this study, which was originally funded through Active Living Research. (April September 2006, $10,000) Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: SIP , MA-ME Policy Research Network Participating Center. The goal of this project was to conduct physical activity policy studies and to develop a national policy research agenda. The Harvard Prevention Research Center on Nutrition and Physical Activity is a participating center in PAPRN. (September August 2006, $120,000) The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Active Living Research Program: Contribution of Trails to Adults Physical Activity. The goal of this study was to assess the contribution of trails and walking paths to overall physical activity levels among adults by objectively measuring physical activity with portable global positioning system (GPS) units and accelerometers. (May August 2006, $149,991)

4 Philip J. Troped Page 4 The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Active Living Research Program: Developing and Evaluating Objective Measures of Outdoor Recreational Areas. The goal of this transdisciplinary study, which involved researchers and practitioners from the fields of public health, geography, landscape architecture, and parks and recreation, was to develop and test methods to assess physical characteristics of community walking paths and trails. The team developed and tested the reliability of the Path Environment Audit Tool. (January March 2005, $100,000) Co-Investigator Massachusetts Department of Public Health: Evaluation of MDPH Obesity Prevention and Control Initiative (Dr. Jean Wiecha, PI). The goal of this sub-study was to assess the validity of Youth Risk Behavior Survey items for moderate and vigorous physical activity using accelerometers. (July June 2005, $100,000) Project Director Massachusetts Department of Public Health: Evaluation of MDPH Obesity Prevention and Control Initiative (Dr. Jean Wiecha, PI). The primary goal of this project was to evaluate a school-based physical activity and nutrition intervention conducted in 13 Massachusetts middle schools. (December June 2004, $360,000) Massachusetts Governor s Committee on Physical Fitness and Sports Mini-Grant: Factors Associated with Use of a Rail-Trail and Physical Activity in a Massachusetts Community (doctoral dissertation). The primary goal of this dissertation study was to examine individual, interpersonal and environmental correlates of trail use and physical activity in a community sample of adults. ( , $500) Research Grants (internal) Purdue Research Foundation, Purdue University: Physical, Social, and Psychological Correlates of Active Commuting. The goal of this study was to examine multilevel correlates of walking and bicycling to work among a sample of Indiana adults (August July 2011, $16,795) Purdue University, College of Liberal Arts, Research Incentive Grant: Predicting Physical Activity Mode from Accelerometer and GPS Data. The goal of this methodological study was to determine whether combining GPS data with accelerometer data improved prediction of activity modes, such as walking and bicycling. (Spring/Summer 2007, $1000) Consulting The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Active Living Research Program: Impacts of Federal Transportation Legislation on Local Investments in Bikeways, Pedestrian Facilities and Active Living Improvements (Dr. Angie Cradock, Harvard School of Public Health, PI). The goal of this transdisciplinary study was to conduct a comprehensive state-by-state review of federal transportation policy implementation. (July July 2007)

This was a one-year multi-site study involving five CDC-funded Prevention Research Centers across the U.S. with Dr. Troped as lead investigator at Harvard.
