1 Dr. William Panenka is an assistant professor in the department of psychiatry at the University of British Columbia. He holds a unique dual certification from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in both the specialties of neurology and psychiatry, one of only two such specialists in Western Canada. He is currently a member of the BC neuropsychiatry program with a specific focus on brain injury patients. The project is ongoing and currently is focused on elucidating diffusion tensor imaging findings and their relation to symptoms in a cohort of approximately 200 subjects who have suffered mild traumatic brain injuries. This data set was acquired here at Vancouver General Hospital and taken to Harvard University for analysis. The project

2 principal investigator is Rael Lange, Phd (formerly from UBC, now at Walter Reed Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC) Worked intermittently part time and full time with Dr. W. Honer in the Centre for Complex Disorders at the University of British Columbia. Past project focused on structural MRI correlates of switching patients from typical to atypical antipsychotic medication. Since July of 2010 the project has focused on delineating structural MRI pathology and its relation to traumatic brain injury in a group of 300 socially disadvantaged, largely substance-addicted individuals in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside hotels Worked with the pathologist Dr. P. Van Den Elzen on a project examining the role of autoimmunity to sulfatide (a myelin component) as an etiological factor in multiple sclerosis Postdoctoral research position in the department of pharmacology at the University of Alberta. Research focus was development of an organotypic spinal cord model to study neuropathic pain pathways Within the context of my masters degree with Dr. Brian MacVicar (Department of Psychiatry, University of British Columbia) I explored a link between cell surface receptors for ATP and inflammatory mediator production in response to brain trauma Full-time project student in Dr. Brian MacVicar s laboratory (Department of Neuroscience, University of Calgary) Thesis project student in Dr. P.K. Lee s laboratory (Department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, University of Calgary).
