A multicentre trial (n=150). NatMed Clinical Trial Research Unit, Plant Sciences, SCU PhD An exploration of the acute stress response to psychological and physical stressors, utilizing biomarkers of the cardiovascular, HPA, SAM and secretory immune systems Explored acute laboratory biological stressors and the resultant stress response. Stressors included a social stress test, resistance exercise and cold exposure. Biomarkers included the evaluation of biochemical markers cortisol, DHEA and α-amylase, the immune markers secretory-iga and lactoferrin; psychological anxiety; cardiovascular measures heart rate and blood pressure, and salivary flow rate. Laboratory work included evaluation of all these biomarkers by enzyme and Enzyme-Linked-Immuno-Sorbent Assay (ELISA), and the development of two ELISA assays. The project was funded by CibaVision.
