6 RESEARCH POSITIONS T-32 Independent Research Project, (T32 DK063929) Differences in Sleep, Weight and Quality of Life in Preschool Children, Cincinnati Children s Hospital Medical Center, Department of Behavioral Medicine & Clinical Psychology, Cincinnati, OH (2011- present) Project Aims: The overall objective of the study is to compare non-obese and obese preschool-age children in terms of sleep, health-related quality of life, and family factors, including parent stress, child temperament, and daily routines. Sleep is measured objectively using actigraphy and subjectively with parent-report sleep diary. Hypotheses include: 1) obese youth will have significantly shorter total sleep duration, less consistent daily routines, greater endorsement of symptoms of disordered sleep, and greater levels of daytime sleepiness than non-obese youth; 2) obese youth will have poorer quality of life compared to healthy-weight peers; 3) parents who report more difficult child temperament and higher rates of parent stress will have children who are more likely to be obese, and have lower total sleep duration, less consistent daily routines, and greater levels of daytime sleepiness.
