OTOLARYNGOLOGY EXPERIENCE I have been a Consultant Otolaryngologist/Head & Neck Surgeon at The York Teaching Hospital for a total of twenty-nine years. I have practised in all areas of the speciality, initially specialising in Otology and Head and Neck Surgery, but later in my career in Rhinology and Laryngology, with a specialist interest in swallowing and voice disorders. I was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists in 2004 for having made an outstanding contribution to the profession. I gained the National Clinical Excellence Award bronze level in

3 I was the Clinical Director for Head and Neck Services for North Yorkshire from 2001 to 2010, Executive Board member from 2001 to 2013 and Chair of Surgical Board at York Teaching Hospital from 2008 to I am joint Clinical Lead for philanthropy and overseas medical development at the recently developed York Institute of Healthcare. I was Senior Lecturer and Educational Facilitator at Hull York Medical School until June 2015, teaching first and second year Undergraduates in all aspects of Medicine, as well as senior medical students in ENT. I obtained a formal qualification; the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education in I was Regional Advisor for the Royal College of Surgeons for Yorkshire and Humberside from 2005 until 2011 and an Examiner for the Intercollegiate Board of Otolaryngology (the exit exam for Trainees) between 2009 and I continue to work in a part time capacity for York Teaching Hospital, and have a busy medico-legal practise. MEDICO-LEGAL EXPERIENCE I have nearly three decades of experience as a medico-legal expert. I have just successfully completed the Cardiff University / Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate in Civil Law. I have provided defendant support for Doctors for many years, and my practise is now all personal Injury and Clinical Negligence based, although I have extensive historical experience in NIHL work. I complete approximately 30 reports per year, and see clients at the Nuffield Hospital in York, or if a voice problem, at my Voice clinic at Harrogate Hospital. I am trained as a single joint expert and happy to offer this work. I offer a free 15-minute consultation to solicitors. I am trained in cross examination skills and happy to attend court if required to do so. My split of instructions is: Claimant 75% : Defendant 20% : Joint 5% In the last two years I have completed Bond Solon training modules in: Excellence in Report writing; Court room skills; Cross examination day; Civil law and procedure (2 days). I have also attended the annual expert witness conference. I accept instructions in all areas of ENT: Otology; hearing loss; tinnitus; dizziness; rhinology; loss of olfaction; voice disorders; swallowing disorders; complex changes following serious brain injury. 3
