USER NEEDS & ISSUES I feel unmotivated to quit because people in my immediate social circle smoke too User needs: Motivation from their loved ones to quit, moral support from their social circle I know that smoking is harmful, but I don t clearly understand the extent of damage User needs: Knowledge about how much harmful substance they ve done to their body by smoking & practical explanation for the numbers I don t believe that anyone can succeed quitting by going cold turkey User needs: Gradual reduction, not abruptly go turkey I think about smoking first thing after waking up & when boredom strikes User needs: Distraction to divert attention away from the craving to smoke I don t believe a person can ever truly quit smoking cleanly User needs: Role model or success story from reallife quitter to inspire I m concerned about the money I spent on smoking User needs: Way to measure the financial loss if they keep this expensive habit and show what this money could otherwise be used for

Lose the LCD Touch Screen Move interface into mobi le application Lose the constant live alerts

PHASE2-User feedback evaluation Q Q Quitter Box 2.0 Convert the Box into a Card Lose (the) control! Improve the app from beta

PHASE3-Concept discussion & sketching Quitter Card Cell sensor Micro SD memory card Application bound by the sleeve

PHASE3-Prototype

PHASE3-User testing User #1: Nick User #2: Steven User #3: no photo (requested anonymity)

PHASE3-Evaluation Respect Privacy and encourage advocacy Our users are adults, who are fully aware about their actions and who voluntarily made the choice to smoke in the first place. So, as designer, we ought to respect t their privacy and not try to preach. Hence, the reason we include various social functions & features to encourage our users to interact with people in their network. Because apparently spending ime with non-smokers, has been r ecommended over and again as an effecti ve solution to help smokers reduce their h abit. Furthermore, Quitter app also e ncourages our users to be active in the c ommunity, hence, spreading the words Niche User Target Our product is not aimed to target a wide range of users, as mentioned before. So, those who intend to use Quitter has to actually make sure that they fall within our target group. Based on our User-testing, one participant actually ended up claiming that he would be motivated to quit only if he wants to quit, no need for extra motivation.

PHASE3-System requirements Hardware requirements for Quitter card: Built-in wi-fi technology Wi-fi enabled smartphone Memory card Force Sensor Software requirements Mobile application developer Mobile operating system (ios, Android & Windows)

PHASE3-System requirements Retrieved from: y/smoke%20temperature% pdf Smoke and Temperature Sensor Retrieved from: IR Temperature Sensor (Chip) Retrieved from: OracleAS Retrieved from: 3/sessions.htm

PHASE3-External constraints The psychological preferences of smokers and their lovers The quitter card and the app try to bind the smokers behaviour with their loved ones and also provide some activities to distract the smokers from smoking. For the lovers of the quitters, it might be stressful or tricky, as some of the tester mentioned that they will feel controlling or stressful when they receive the alert and don t know what to do. How it works well with the cooperation of the smokers and their loved one without adding any confusion or other adverse effect on their relationship still nee ded to be studied and tested. Also, the activities we proposed on the app are basically to encourage the smokers to communicate and share their experience with other quitters. However, through the testers evaluation, it seems to uncomfortable to join such activities especially for the smoking quitters, also, such activities joined by the smoking quitter s might, on the contrary, be an incentive for the m to smoke more than they think. Technologies In presenting the card together with the quitter application to market, we consider the accuracy of the card in terms of the detecting function, it is the main functionality of the card which ensures the whole process of quitting works well. Also, the accuracy and efficiency of the real-time signal transmission from the sensor on the card to the app should also be guaranteed. Trust technology, (possible) safety issue about meeting strangers, User unwilling / not keen to share accurate personal data (Privacy) Materials The testing prototype is roughly made for only delivering the general ideas and functionality of our product. So the material, shape and size need to be further considered. While the quitter cards itself is already portable as it can be insert into most of the manufactured cigarette packs. What size is most suitable for the user experience; what appearance of the card can attract people especially the smokers the most, and what material of it could be kept long as it would be inside the pack with the sticks of cigarette rubbing everyday. Business & Marketing Further research on the market of such targets (the smokers who have intention to quit for their loved ones) need to be undertaken. Together with the quitters attitudes towards our products and other existing smoking quitting products. Also, it is also needed to broaden the targets to potential smoking quitter with different motivation with the enhancement of our product s functionality.

PHASE3-Future use While currently the quitter card is mainly used to detect the number of cigarettes the smokers take every day, it has potential to integrate it with functions offered by other cards like the bank card and the transport card, as the functions of the card being improved, it would encourage more people to use it as the necessity of their daily life. Also, the card also has the potential to enhance its technology, like detecting the actual body condition it has when people smoke every time in the future and transfer the data to the binding application. The functions of the app is currently proposed mainly as social network with other quitters, it might have the opportunity to explore the most likely situations in which the smokers smoke least and encourage some activities network to be introduced into the app, for example, when the smokers join the indoor activities or some activities with less smokers, they are less likely to smoke.
