2 Technical Data Information Safety Helmet This is the single most effective way of reducing head injuries, a risk of being struck on the head. Helmets designed to handle impact energy generally contain an inner lining designed to absorb impact. There may be additional benefits such as protection at extremes of temperature or electrical resistance etc. All this additional information will be marked on the helmet. Features & Benefits Shell Ergonomically shaped lightweight shell that can be manufactured in several colours as standard. Materials : Shell : ABS or HDPE depending on model Harness : Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) & High Tensile Nylon Tape Ventilation Ventilation aids airflow and helps regulate the temperature within the helmet making it more comfortable to wear. Badging Facilitates the application of company logo if required. Peak Short peak gives superior upward vision. Chin Strap A strap which fits under the chin to help secure the helmet on the head. Made of elastic or nylon. Range of Accessories (Slots) All Pangolin helmets can be fitted with additional PPE, such as ear defenders or faceshields, giving additional functionality. Simple Head Band Adjustment All Pangolin helmets can be quickly and easily fitted to the head using the adjustable head band fastening. Two variations of adjustment are available 1. Pin lock 2. Ratchet Comfort Band (Sweatband) Fitted as standard, this accessory covers the inner front surface of the headband to improve wearer comfort. Type II Hard Hats are intended to reduce the force of lateral impact resulting from a blow which may be received off-center, from the side, or to the top of the head. Class E (Electrical) are designed to reduce exposure to high voltage conductors, and offer dielectric protection up to 20,000 volts (phase to ground). Class G (General) are designed to reduce exposure to low voltage conductors, and offer dielectric protection up to 2,200 volts (phase to ground). Class C (Conductive) only protects the wearer from impact. Type IHard Hats are intended to reduce the force of impact resulting from a blow only to the top of the head. This form of impact may result from a hammer or nail gun falling from above. Type II Hard Hats are intended to reduce the force of lateral impact resulting from a blow which may be received off-center, from the side, or to the top of the head. This form of impact may result from contact with the sharp corner of a side beam. Class E (Electrical) offer dielectric protection up to 20,000 volts (phase to ground). Class G (General) offer dielectric protection up to 2,200 volts (phase to ground). Class C (Conductive) They are not intended to provide protection against contact with electrical conductors. Type 1 Type 2 Type 3 This is the European standard which specifies the performance requirements, method of test and marking requirements for industrial safety helmets for general use in industry. All components, shells, harnesses and accessories should be checked for signs of dents, cracks, penetration, brittleness of deterioration which may reduce the strength and efficiency of the safety helmet. 2. If a helmet is used with other PPE items such as earmuffs or face shields, they must be compatible and fit correctly. 3. Ensure the chin strap is fastened and adjusted correctly while working. 4. Adjust the headband and chinstrap accordingly. 5. Always wear the helmet when exposed to falling hazards and when advised to do so. 6. Safety helmets should not be stored in direct sunlight or exposed to excessive heat. Use of cleaning solvents may deteriorate the shell. General cleaning method using soapy water and a soft cloth is acceptable. 8. The sweatband should also be cleaned regularly or replaced where necessary. 1. There is no obsolescence of a safety helmet but it is generally accepted that they should be replaced, if used on a regular basis and maintained correctly, every 2 years. 2. If a helmet is issued that is over 5 years old then it should not be used. The manufacturing date is indicated on the underside of the helmet shell. 3. Helmet components, such as comfort bands or harnesses etc. should be replaced every 1-2 years. Contact
