54 PROPOSALS FOR OIC- SHPA To achieve the targets of OIC-SHPA (P.A.2.2); alcohol, tobacco and substance abuse should be assessed with special focus as risk factors for non-communicable diseases According to World Health Organization, Tobacco kills nearly 6 million people and alcohol consumption results in 2.5 million deaths each year in the world. Bearing in mind these facts, addictions and substance abuse should be considered with a particular importance as in the case of Tobacco Free OIC Initiative. 53
55 PROPOSALS FOR OIC- SHPA Civil society initiatives could be developed under the umbrella of OIC like; Addiction Working Group, Public Health Forum or Substance Abuse Initiative similar with The OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) and Humanitarian Forum (OIC). Turkish Green Crescent Society is always ready to share its expertise, know-how and documents to make our world smoke-free, alcohol-free, drug-free and to protect our next generations from all kinds of addictions. 54
