1 Welspun CSR Times February 2017 Activities in Anjar 4 metric melas were organized in Satapar, Khambhara & Vidi primary schools. More than 700 students, parents, school management committee members participated and witnessed the event sanitation blocks have been constructed across 43 villages in the Kutch district. More than people are able to use these toilets. It has been observed that people have stopped defecating in open areas. The health of the community people has improved over the years. An impact assessment was conducted in approximately 1000 households to access the usage of sanitation facilities. Out of 43 villages, 13 villages with 460 households, i.e. 46 %, survey has been completed and it was observed that average 70% people are utilizing the facility. 2 In February, 1150 patients of 19 villages attended the mobile clinic. Their examination, treatment, suggestion & referrals were done accordingly. The team has also conducted various camps & awareness sessions on blood pressure and diabetes. Two community based RO plants (500 LHP) have been installed & inaugurated in two villages of Chandrani & Budharmora. Another RO plant of 250 LPH has been installed & inaugurated at Community Health Center (CHC) Anjar Hospital. The health staff & patients (approximately 300 daily) will be benefitted by this project. 3 Towards reduction in maternal & infant mortality, Navchetna (Improvement of Health status of Children, Adolescent & Women) has several initiatives under its awareness program. These were undertaken in 4 villages of Versamedi, Ajapar, Khambhra & Shinugra addressing different target groups like pregnant mothers, nursing mothers, aanganwadi children, school going student & adolescents. 2 days training was conducted on following topics:- How to conduct house hold survey How to do data collection & record Planning of Health Mela Field activities how to communicate in the community In February, height, weight & Hb levels of adoloescent girls was carried out. It was observed that out of 748 girls, 148 were identified with low weight, of which 40 girls gained weight. 34 adolescents attended the age of marriage & got married. Out of 110 girls with Hb< 10%, 88 girls achieved rise in their level of Hb. There were 106 pregnant women, 100 women had institutional deliveries, and 60 women were newly added during repeated survey. During base line survey, 97 lactating mothers were identified. They all have successfully completed more than 6 weeks and their children are healthy. 880 children were identified in between 0-5 years. Of which 49 were in red zone. 4 Activities in Mumbai Aakar Samajik Sanstha is an NGO operating in the slums of Malwani. It is started by the promoter of Maitri Credit Cooperative Society, Mrs Asha Kiran Kamble. Aakar Samajik Sanstha has identified and made 31 self-help groups in Malwani. On 14 th February, Aakar Samajik Sanstha in collaboration with P- ward of BMC (Brihanmumbai Mahanagar Corporation) jointly decided to conduct vocational trainings, trainings on financial matters like budgeting and saving to these 31 self-help groups. Also, BMC stated that they would provide place for exhibition for selling of the products which these SHGs make. Aakar Samajik Sanstha also organized a training of 7 women on budgeting and saving. Women in Malwani have diverse talents. Some stitch kurtis, make jute bags, imitation jewellery, some do painting on paper bags and some of them do hand embroidery are earn their living. 5 Activities in Vapi End line evaluation and Needs Assessment survey on health was conducted by the Family Planning Association of India on 9th, 10th & 11th February 2017 in the villages of Vapi. On 9th February, five girls from Vatar Village were identified for the survey training. These girls were briefed about the purpose of the survey and explained End line questionnaire. They visited five villages and conducted 5 FGDs (focused group discussions) and 3 interviews. On 10th & 11th, all the FGDs were completed along with key informant interviews. Total 10 FGDs (5 with married women and 5 with unmarried women), 20 key informant interviews with various stakeholders such as ASHA, AWW, PHC Doctor, Private Doctor, ANMs and SHG leader were conducted as per the plan. HER Health Project was successfully launched on 7 th February The meeting was initiated with the brief presentation followed by HER health implementation model with Ms. Sajuti and Mr. Gopal Krishnan from Tesco, Mr. Ashoka Vittal & Ms. Himanshi Verma from Swasti NGO and the CSR team. 6 Sanitary napkin machine, Sure Free, was installed in Vatar village. This will bring about empowerment & self-dependency among women of Vatar village and the members of SHGs. In February, the women made 619 packets and sold 216 packets. 12 packets were distributed as free samples. This will encourage the community to adopt hygienic health practices.
