1 LAWLER COLLECTION Document Box 326 and Miscellaneous Maps ACQUISITION John W. and Helen Lawler have donated Lawler Family materials to the Sharlot Hall Museum at various times beginning in BIOGRAPHY John Jack Fenton Lawler was born in Illinois on September 15, Jack and his brothers and sisters ( Mary, William, Michael, and Danie) grew up in Kansas. In 1876 Jack followed his brother Michael to Arizona to work in the mines, initially in Bisbee, then Tombstone, and finally in the Bradshaw Mountains of Yavapai County. Jack Lawler struck gold in the Eureka Mining District at his Hillside Mine. He developed the Copper Creek claim, known today as Phelps Dodge Bagdad, Inc. and founded the Yavapai Savings Bank. Jack s mining and subsequent real estate investments in the Prescott area, San Diego, and San Francisco led to the involvement of his brothers and nephews. The Lawler Block on North Cortez Street was one of many sources of income for the Lawler family. Jack Lawler died in Los Angeles in March 1916 from miners consumption. Three of his nephews were John W. Lawler, Michael L. Lynch, and William A. Lawler. John W. Lawler married Helen. The Helen and John W. Lawler Trust has also generously supported the Sharlot Hall Museum, funding the restoration of the Museum s Ranch House. SCOPE AND CONTENT The Papers of the Lawler Family span the years 1883 to 1969 with the bulk of the material dating from The collection consists of correspondence, ledgers, maps, official papers, reports, and photographs. Subjects include: Thompson Valley Water Co.; Pinedale Coal Field; Williamson Valley Farms; Arizona Del Rio Company; Rainbow Mines; Baltimore Arizona Copper Co.; Bonnie Gold Mining Co.; Kirkland
