2 Course information This course is aimed at senior residents, board-certified radiologists and fellows interested in abdominal imaging. Diagnostic criteria and challenges, staging principles for imaging and advances in depiction and characterisation of a variety of neoplastic and inflammatory disorders of the abdomen will be presented. Special focus will be on the application of the latest imaging techniques available. Renowned European experts will ensure a high quality teaching programme, combining plenary lectures and interactive workshops in small groups. Learning objectives to appreciate the potential of advanced imaging in the clinical management of neoplastic and inflammatory diseases of the abdomen to review state-of-the-art imaging strategies and criteria available in the detection and characterisation of the most frequent/important abdominal conditions to learn how to respond to difficult clinical problems, concerning accurate staging and defining resectability in pancreatic and rectal cancer

4 Learning Objectives Acute abdomen: inflammation and its mimics M. Zins, Paris/FR to describe and propose an effective diagnostic imaging strategy for the assessment of acute abdominal pain to describe typical and atypical findings of appendicitis, colonic diverticulitis and cholecystitis from different imaging modalities to discuss alternative diagnoses in right and left lower abdominal pain including epiploic appendagitis, infarction of the greater omentum and inflammatory bowel disease Incidental focal liver lesion: significance and management Y. Menu, Paris/FR to learn about the incidence/prevalence of incidental focal liver lesions, and to appraise the essentials of pathology that are relevant for imaging reporting to understand how the clinical background helps stratifying the overall managing to be familiar with the stepwise clinical, biological and radiological strategy in such cases to learn the do s and do not s in the communication with the patients Mesenteric ischemia: can we predict infarction? Zamboni, Verona/IT to describe the epidemiology, the clinical and pathologic features of cystic tumours of the pancreas to describe the key imaging findings useful for a diagnosis, and the signs useful for a differential diagnosis between lesions to understand the management options for pancreatic cystic lesions and to identify imaging findings that can help define the best management for each patient Advances in inflammatory diseases of the bowel S. Taylor, London/UK to appreciate the underlying pathological changes in Crohn s disease relevant to the imaging assessment to appreciate the cross-sectional imaging features of inflammatory bowel disease to understand the role of cross-sectional imaging in assessing inflammatory disease activity and complications to appreciate the role of imaging in treatment follow-up Imaging peritoneal carcinomatosis: impact on patient care P. Prassopoulos, Alexandroupolis/GR to review the pathophysiology, distribution and imaging findings in peritoneal carcinomatosis to discuss the current trends in the treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis: cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) to explain the role of imaging in the selection of patients for CRS/HIPEC to analyse the role of imaging modalities in the diagnosis, pre-treatment planning and follow-up of patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis Rectal cancer: imaging local tumour and nodal spread, before, during and after therapy S.
