3 Conscious Sedation The aim of this programme is to provide an update on the use of conscious sedation for dentistry in accordance with the following published guidelines: - Standing Dental Advisory Committee, Department of Health. London, 2007 By the end of the course the participants should: Understand the indications and contra-indications for the use of conscious sedation Know the principles of the use of intravenous sedation using midazolam and inhalational sedation using nitrous oxide and oxygen Be familiar with examples of useful alternative conscious sedation techniques Know where to obtain guidance on the use of conscious sedation techniques Craig DC, Skelly AM. London: Quintessence Publishing, 2004 DAY 2 The aims of this course are to provide dental practitioners with an update course in dental radiography and radiation protection, - a core CPD subject as recommended by the General Dental Council in 2006 and covering the IR(ME)R topics specified in the Department of Health s 2001 Guidance Notes booklet.
