2 Mission Our mission is to continuously set standards in postgraduate medical education and to foster the sharing of medically guided expertise in a worldwide network of healthcare professionals to improve patient care in trauma or disorders of the musculoskeletal system. The AO principles of fracture management Fracture reduction and fixation to restore anatomical relationships. 1 2 Fracture fixation providing absolute or relative stability, as required by the personality of the fracture, the patient, and the injury. Early and safe mobilization and rehabilitation of the injured part and the patient as a whole. 4 3 Preservation of the blood supply to soft-tissues and bone by gentle reduction techniques and careful handling.

4 4 AOCMF Course Orbital Dissection; Advanced Surgical Techniques Goal of the course This seminar is intended to provide knowledge and experience through which participants will clearly understand the principles of distraction osteogenesis and will provide all fields used in DO as applied in the CranioMaxillofacial skeleton according to AO principles and techniques. Target participants Certified surgeons and surgical trainees who deal with musculoskeletal head and neck disorders concerning trauma and reconstruction, as well as congenital and acquired deformities of the craniofacial skeleton, specifically the orbit. Learning objectives After this event, the participant will be able to: Describe the topographic anatomy for surgical approaches to the orbit Describe the soft and hard tissue surgery around the orbit Outline the different types of surgical approaches to the orbit Select the appropriate upper and lower eyelid incisions for optimal access to orbital fractures Perform the common approaches to the orbit Perform the key steps in coronal and temporal flaps Select the appropriate flap for soft tissue orbital defect Apply the principles of 3-D planning and navigation for orbital surgery Course description The goal of the course is to learn the topographic anatomy of the orbit and its surgical approaches. The topics will be taught in lectures, plenary discussions, practical exercises on human anatomical specimens as well as through computer planning.

All events are planned and scheduled by local and regional AO surgeon groups based on local needs assessments. We rely on industrial/commercial partners for in-kind support to run simulations/skills training if educationally needed.
