1 SHERIFF Al Nienhuis P.O. BOX BROOKSVILLE, FL FAX PHONE Media Release From: Re: Denise M. Moloney Public Information Officer, HCSO VICE Unit Hard At Work Date: December 13, 2012 Every day is a busy day for the detectives in the Hernando County Sheriff s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit, but Tuesday ( ) was an exceptionally busy day. On Tuesday, the Vice Unit, with assistance from Patrol, Selective Enforcement (SEU), COPPS, and K-9 conducted an operation to serve three search warrants. This was done in an effort to rid Hernando County streets of illegal narcotics, firearms and wanted persons. The investigation that led up to this operation took four months. The operation was a huge success and resulted in the seizure of 17.1 grams of Crack Cocaine, six tablets of Oxycodone, 0.1 grams of Marijuana, 11 firearms and three vehicles. A total of eight individuals were arrested. The eradication of street level drug dealers in our residential communities is a paramount mission for the Sheriff s Office. These types of investigations can be both lengthy and expensive, but worth every penny spent to keep our community safe. I am concerned about the amount of firearms seized and the drugs in this case. Guns and drugs are a violent combination and we will continue to take an aggressive approach to the arrest and prosecution of these cases, said Colonel Mike Maurer.
