Play Steps operates 4 x 10 week terms per year. The sessions run for 2.5 hours, 2 days per week. Participants can choose to attend for one or two sessions per week. Gladesville Outreach Teaching or Program -, speech in the home environment or on site at Gladesville. Behavioural support eg working alongside teachers, family support workers developing and implementing home based behavioural support programs. Access to staff with training in programs such as RDI, Floortime (teachers and therapists). All programs are tailored to suit the needs of the child and family. Small Steps - A 14 week program combining a parent training element and centre based play program for children and parents with ongoing consultation. During the program parents learn to understand autism, to build social communication and to analyse and use structure so as to prevent inappropriate behaviours. Parent Learning Program - SERVAM is an acronym for: - Sensory considerations - Environmental management - Routines and planned change - Visual supports - Autism friendly communication - Motivation These six elements provide a framework for creating autism-friendly learning environments at home, school and in the community. SERVAM fosters the child s intellectual, emotional, social, physical and creative growth in day-to-day life. All children with autism are different. SERVAM provides a flexible framework so that staff and parents can balance the child s specific learning needs with family and school life.

It is intended for mothers, fathers and other family carers of children who have recently been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder or who are starting the assessment and diagnosis process. Workshops are kept to small groups of 4 10 people. Families will gain information to help them in the early days of their journey, including: learning about autism spectrum disorder and what it means for their child and family learning how the everyday things they do can make a difference to their child s development learning how to choose between therapies and get the most out of services.
