13 Needs 50,000 youth with ASD turn 18 each year (National Autism Indicators Report, 2017) No survey/data that covers the full population of transition-age youth and young adults with ASD Services are fragmented Youth with ASD are more likely to have: o co-occurring health and mental health conditions o less likely to be able to manage independently and develop friendships o less likely to take steps in secondary school that will prepare them for college and employment 13

20 Behavioral Assessment Parent Interview To be conducted by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Purpose: gather overall history, considerations, concerns, and suggestions Child/Youth Interview To be conducted by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Purpose: gather likes and dislikes, evaluate skill level, incorporate individual into the process Additional Providers Interview To be conducted by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Purpose: gather information as it relates to the respective treatment and setting Allows for future collaboration 20
21 Observation Purpose Evaluate behaviors as they occur Gather information of what has been working and not working Observe potential reasons for on-going behavior Compare what is observed vs. what is reported Begin to develop potential goals 21
22 Assessment Measures Purpose To provide an additional resource that helps support measuring an individuals strengths and weaknesses Common Tools Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales III (Computer and manually based) -Completed by parent/guardian -Provides data of an individual s functioning level in comparison to same aged peers AFLS (Observation and Testing) -Completed by a trained staff member -Used as a curriculum guide 22
23 Putting It All Together-Treatment Plan Gather all reported information by parent/guardian and child Consider all information that was directly observed across all settings Evaluate the assessment results for tools administered Review any additional previous reports Incorporate all relevant information as reported by additional providers Develop and prioritize treatment goals 23

25 Case Example- Mary Mary- 17 y/o female diagnosed with ASD and GAD Expected to graduate high school with a diploma in June GPA Resides with her mother and younger brother who also has a diagnosis of ASD No friends/social supports History of verbal outbursts and making inappropriate comments Conflict in the home between Mary and mother Years of home and clinic-based ABA Receiving other services- CBT, Social Skills Group, Executive Functioning Coach Transition planning fragmented 25
