2 The Evolution of Cancer Care Slash, burn and poison era Precision Medicine Casting out evil spirits Modern Chemo- Radiotherapy Minimally Invasivesurgery 2
3 To Provide the Best Possible Chance for Patients We are practicing Precision Medicine and not just talking about it. With each individual we work as hard as possible to find an Achille s heel (target) in a patient s tumor and not just use the next new agent to come along. We are mobilizing all the tools at our disposal to maximize the chances of providing benefit with the next therapy. 3
4 Breast Cancer Currently all Breast Cancer patients assessed for: ER &PR status, HER2 Expression, EGFR BRCAI and BRCAII expression with appropriate history Currently there are 10 open clinical trials using biomarker data as treatment criteria, & a study collecting biomarker data in triple negative breast cancer. A national study complete genome sequencing of patients with triple negative breast cancer is being led by Baylor s Dr. Joyce O Shaughnessy. The first patient (a Baylor patient) to be sequenced was found to have three unique targets for precision therapy. 14 patients have now been sequenced data being analyzed 4
5 TRIPLE NEGATIVE BREAST CANCER PATIENT Sequenced and Found Lesions in both PI3K/AKT/mTOR and Ras/MEK/ERK PATIENT TREATED WITH DUAL-TARGETING STRATEGY BASED ON SEQUENCING INFORMATION Before 3/7/11 Post 2 cycles 5/4/11 Patnaik et al. ASCO June 2011 # 2502
