2 The European School of Oncology is pleased to announce that ECCLU, the Educational Cancer Convention, will be held in collaboration with the European Society for Medical Oncology and with the Flims Alumni Club in Lugano, Switzerland, from 2 to 4 July The programme design has been lead by young oncologists to best meet the educational needs and interests of young oncologists, providing knowledge in the areas where new and important information has become available. The aim of the Convention is to offer an update on what matters in a concise and efficient manner, offering a refresh meeting to all those who have an established education in oncology. The Convention will also offer the opportunity to understand how knowledge should be applied in practice with the example of clinical cases brought by the participants. 1

11 General information Official Language The official language of the course will be English. No simultaneous translation will be provided. Abstract book Supplement of Annals of Oncology will contain abstracts of the invited lectures and those proposed by the participants and accepted for oral presentation, poster presentation or print only. Travel grants A limited number of travel grants are assigned on a competitive basis from among participants from middle-low income countries who have had an abstract accepted for oral or poster presentation. The CV should be submitted at the same time as the abstract indicating the amount requested for travel. Successful applicants are granted accommodation and refund of actual travel costs at the end of the Convention. Insurance The organisers bear no responsibility for untoward events in relation with the participation in the Convention. 12 Abstract submission Deadline for submission Submit online at 16 February Participants are encouraged to submit one abstract describing a clinical case and to be considered for oral presentation, poster presentation or for inclusion in the abstract book only. Abstracts with trials or other scientific studies may not be considered. The abstract should describe a clinical case in one of the following categories: Breast cancer Gastro-intestinal tumour Head and neck cancer Lung cancer Haematological cancer Gynaecological cancer Prostate cancer Instructions: It is suggested that the clinical case abstract is structured as follows: Introduction, Diagnostic considerations, Treatment options, Treatment decision, Results, Follow-up, 3 questions that are proposed for discussion. The abstract should not exceed 2000 characters (including title). The title should appear in capital letters. 11

13 For each author, provide surname followed by given name and initials (presenting author in capital letters). List affiliations after the author s list. The full address with phone, fax numbers and e -mail address of the first author (=corresponding author) must be provided. The first author will receive all the subsequent communication concerning the submitted abstract by only. For abstracts accepted for presentation, the first author will be the presenting author and is requested to register to the Convention. It is the responsibility of the first author to ascertain whether all authors are aware of the content of the abstract before submission. The submission outcome will be notified by 27 February and the corresponding/presenting author will be required to register to the conference (early registration deadline: 23 March). 12

More information at Airplane Lugano-Agno Airport, situated at 6 km from the city, is an ideal point of arrival. Train The Lugano railroad station offers you fast and easy connections to all of the most important destinations. Car Lugano is served by the motorway axis that directly connects northern Europe to the Mediterranean. Airport-shuttle Lugano: (Switzerland) The shuttle bus service guarantees regular connections between the airport and the center of Lugano from to (from to Saturday and Sunday), scheduled to match the arrival and departure of air traffic.
