2 Beginning a path that leads to college or technical school can be an overwhelming experience. AMAC Accessibility Solutions at Georgia Tech is here to help! During this session participants will learn about AMAC Accessibilty and how their services can help students stay on the path to success. An AMAC membership program to colleges, universities and tech schools can provide free assistive technology solutions and resources for students. For Handouts:

3 AMAC Accessibility History Incubated at UGA under UGA RCLD FY07 Georgia Board of Regents Initiative with the charge of developing social entrepreneur model for a centralized material and Assistive Technology training and technical assistance conversion center. FY11 Transition to Georgia Institute of Technology. FY11 The Georgia Assistive Technology Project, Tools for Life transitioned under BOR, Ga. Tech AMAC through Governor predestination. FY12 Re-branding from the Alternative Media Access Center (AMAC) to AMAC Accessibility Solution Center.

4 AMAC Accessibility History FY14 AMAC moved under the Georgia Tech. College of Architecture and became one of six Research and Development Center. Partnerships with the School of Industrial Design and The Center for Assistive Technology and Environmental Access (CATEA).

5 AMAC AMAC Accessibility is a social change organization on a mission to create affordable services for governmental, private and nonprofits organization working with individuals with disabilities. Services include e-text, braille, captioning, assistive technology, office management software and consulting.

6 Accessibility Made Smart AMAC creates practical solutions that work, with a focus on utility, ease of use, and high quality. Accessibility Consulting focuses on organizational accessibility needs with evaluation, technical assistance, customer support, and website accessibility solutions. Braille Services produces customized projects from both print materials and electronic text including partial books and chapters or graphics only using cutting-edge technology. Captioning Services makes classrooms, meetings, labs and other audio environments fully accessible for deaf or hard-of-hearing. Professional E-Text Producers provide high-quality e-text in many formats such as PDF, DOC, DAISY, and HTML. Certified Assistive Technology team provides on-site and remote assessments, demonstrations, training and technical assistance for education, work, and daily living environments. 13 What is DAISY? Digital Accessible Information System At its conception A used to mean Audio Digital Talking Book (DTB) specification for accessible digital textbooks Internationally recognized accessible multi-media publishing system, compatible with the World Wide Web /intro-article1.html

14 What is OCR? Optical Character Recognition Enables to convert different types of documents, such as scanned paper documents, PDF files or images captured by a digital camera into editable and searchable data Makes it easier for screen readers

15 What is MathML? MathML: Mathematical Markup Language An application of XML Used to make STEM media more accessible MathML and screen readers Equations are encoded to become accessible to screen readers. MathSpeak provides a grammar for the code
